Job summary

To act as the front-line interface betweenpatients and the Practice, adopting a professional and cordial manner at alltimes

To provide and maintain a high standard of patientcommunication, delivered with a customer focus to the practice population.

To work alongside clinical and administrativecolleagues to facilitate the provision of preventative health care to thepractice population.

To liaise with patients so as to deliverhealthcare outcomes in line with Practice objectives and contractualresponsibilities

Main duties of the job

Answering telephone calls and dealing with face to face enquiries.

Greeting patients and visitors

Explaining the practice procedures to new patients.

Dealing with all requests in an efficient and courteous manner.

Opening post and forwarding it onto the relevant parties.

Drafting correspondence on behalf of the surgery and medical staff.

Scheduling appointments on the phone and face-to-face.

Screening enquiries for the doctors and medical staff.

Updating the surgeries computer system with appointments and personal details.

Maintaining a clean reception area and other patient areas.

Receiving urine and blood samples and sending them off to hospital laboratories.

Registering new patients.

Accurately collecting updating and maintaining personal details about patients.

Arranging any necessary follow up appointments for patients.

Liaising with couriers and delivery companies and accepting orders on behalf of the surgery (ensuring they are directed appropriately)

You will be part of our multi-discipline team which consists of GP partners, salaried GPs, trainee GPs, advanced clinical practitioners,practice nurses, emergency care practitioners, health care assistants,pharmacists, admin assistants, care navigators, care co-ordinators, wellbeing coach and management teams.

Job responsibilities

Answering telephone calls and dealing withface to face enquiries.

Greeting patients andvisitors of differing emotional states ( anxious, depressed, angry)

Explaining the practice procedures to new patients.

Dealing with all requests in an efficient andcourteous manner.

Opening post and forwarding it onto therelevant parties.

Scheduling appointments on the phone and face-to-facefor patients and asking for a brief explanation of symptoms (confidentiality tobe maintained when other patients could potentially over-hear)

Screening enquiries for the doctors andmedical staff

Updating the surgeries computer system withappointments and personal details.

Maintaining a clean reception area and otherpatient areas to show a professional image.

Arranging for clinical nurses to check apatients blood pressure, height and weight.

Making sure that the appointments system runssmoothly.

Receiving urine and blood samples and sendingthem off to hospital laboratories.

Registering new patients at the surgery.

Arranging any necessary follow up appointmentsfor patients in the surgery, with hospitals or with other healthcareprofessionals.

Liaising with couriers and delivery companiesand accepting orders on behalf of the surgery (ensuring they are directed tothe named recipient)

Making sure that the medical consulting roomsand surgery is fully stocked with essential supplies.
