HDRC Liverpool Project Manager

Liverpool, United Kingdom Liverpool City Council Full time
About the Role

The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a new element of NIHR research infrastructure funded by its Public Health Programme that will be based in local government. The purpose is to enable local authorities to become more research-active, undertake new research and use existing evidence to inform our decision making, and undertake evaluation activities. There will be a central focus on health inequalities and actions to tackle issues faced by local disadvantaged groups and areas.

Liverpool is one of 30 councils across the UK pioneering this new investment in local government. HDRC Liverpool will enable Liverpool City Council (LCC) to become a world leading centre for research. The programme will enable a culture of making evidence informed decisions by LCC and its partners to improve the determinants of health. This will lead to overall improvements in health outcomes and a narrowing of the health divide within the city.

HDRC Liverpool will build on existing strengths and make the best use of Liverpool’s data, the experience of our residents and our research and innovation skills. These assets will fuel the development of local solutions with global significance, for Liverpool and for other cities to improve the health of their residents.

This role represents a unique opportunity to join a new, pioneering team, to help grow and shape a new way of doing things and ultimately to have a big impact on outcomes for local people.

We are looking for a person with appropriate knowledge, skills, experience and ability to support the development, delivery and sustainability of the Liverpool HDRC.

The post-holder will support council staff to become more research active, conduct robust local research and produce high quality outputs that are disseminated to a variety of local and national stakeholders. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build, negotiate and influence a variety of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong project management background and will be able to network at all levels to work towards shared objectives and the delivery of outcomes. This is a challenging and dynamic role meaning you will need to be able to work under pressure and manage competing demands of multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines. This post would suit individuals who are committed to collaborative working to improve health and wellbeing at a local level. The post holder should be keen to develop an understanding of health and impacts of wider determinants, public health and inequalities, and the importance of research within this work. They will assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of Liverpool’s new research infrastructure, enabling the HDRC and partners to meet milestones and deliverables on time and to a high standard. This post is suitable for someone who has an interest in programme delivery, research and reducing health inequalities. The post holder will work closely with colleagues across these organisations and many others, meaning excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
