The Procurement Department undertakes the responsibility of providing the role of Medical Devices Safety Officer service to University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic Clinical Procurement team in delivering an efficient and effective safety role for alerts and communications from all agencies.

The role works closely within procurement, but also with Medical Engineering and Patients Safety/Governance team at UHB and also across the wider BSOL Trusts.

We welcome applicants with a clinical or medical engineering background.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the development and co-ordination of medical devices safety and management across the Trust. As the MDSO the post holder will be involved in medical device incident reporting and learning within the Trust. The post holder will act as the main contact for NHS England, the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) and manufacturers of medical devices. The post holder will, for medical devices management provide assurance that the Trust is compliant with current relevant statutory, mandatory, regulatory and best working practice requirements. The MDSO will be a member of the National Medical Devices Safety Network and will also be a member of the Trust Equipment Strategy Group. The post holder will be the key contact for all medical devices related queries for frontline staff and managers. This is primarily a specialist role working as an autonomous practitioner to ensure that the Trust delivers an environment that is safe and secure by providing the Trust with specialized guidance, advice and support on medical device issues. To act as a key link for the Trust on medical device safety and management issues with external stakeholders working in collaboration with NHS England and the MHRA.
