Job summary
Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust takes violence and abuse directed towards its staff seriously. Across our hospitals, we are committed to ensuring staff feel safe, and we firmly believe that they should be able to come to work without fear of violence, abuse, or harassment.
In October 2022 we published our first Violence Reduction Strategy, inline with the requirements of the NHS England Violence Reduction Standard.
Within this strategy we identified clear key ambitions in line with the Leeds Way Methodology, of which one of these was to deliver high quality targeted and risk based training, and that's where you come in.
Were looking for an individual to join a new ambitious and progressive violence reduction team at LTHT to not only deliver high quality training in the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression but to help design and shape the training which we offer to our people in the future.
Main duties of the job
Were looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with a passion for not only keeping our people safe, but also for ensuing that the public and our patients are receive a high quality of care.
The correct person will directly influence frontline NHS staff in how they manage vulnerable persons, particularly when restrictive interventions are required, but more than that, they will support and educate our people to ensure they are able to recognise the signs that a person may present a risk to themselves or others and take a holistic approach to reduce that risk only utilising physical force when necessary and ensuring that it is the least restrictive intervention.
About us
TheViolence Reduction Team at LTHT is a small but growing group dedicated to notonly reducing abuse against our people, but also improving health outcomes forpatients who may require physical restraint when at LTHT.
Werelooking to develop, role out and embed a prospectus of training for the wholetrust to not only keep them safe, but their most vulnerable patients andmembers of the public by ensuring that we deliver high quality, evidence basedand effective training both in the physical restraint, but also in thetheoretical components linked to this such as de-escalation strategies, warningsigns of aggression, physical health implications and other's. Not only that,but we have an ambition to be one of the first acute trusts to become acertified training centre with theRestraint Reduction Network (RRN) ensuring that the training our peoplereceive is recognised as being of the highest standard.

Job responsibilities
Deliverhigh quality PMVA Training; including team physical interventions skills,personal safety/breakaway skills and trust agreed Violence Reduction syllabus
Pleasenote- This makes up a minimum of 80% of the job role.
Bean integral member of the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression(PMVA) service fulfilling a range of duties and act as a positive proactivemember of the PMVA team and wider security department
Assistin the design, development, delivery and evaluation of the PMVA Trainingincluding Physical Interventions, Breakaway and Violence Reduction Syllabus.
Assistin carrying out risk assessments and provide advice regarding violence andaggression management within LTHT
Supportin the promotion and adoption of the NHS England Violence Prevention andReduction Standard.
Provideadditional resource to CSUs where the level of challenging behaviour and/orthreat exceeds current training levels
Providepost incidents support around instances of violence and abuse and offer adviceand expertise to assist in preventing reoccurrence.

Qualifications
Essential
General Services Association (GSA) tutors certificate at grade A Teaching Qualification such as 998 PTLLS or Level 3 Award in Learning and Development or equivalent Immediate Life Support (ILS) provider NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent/higher qualification Current First Aid at Work Certificate
Desirable
Higher level teaching qualification Cert Ed or PGCE ILS Instructor Professional Registered Qualification such as RMN, RNMH, RNLD or state registered paramedic
Experience
Essential
Managing risk in relation managing clinically related challenging behaviour in a clinical setting Utilising approved physical intervention techniques in a clinical setting to manage violent situations At least two years experience in the NHS or clinical healthcare setting Delivering training or instruction on a one to one or group basis in a health related matter
Desirable
Managing risk in relation to violence and aggression in range of different mental health and learning disability settings Working knowledge of the Legal framework around clinically related challenging behaviour- DoLs, MCA, MHA and Criminal Law Act 1967
