Job summary

We are recruiting for Trust Grade Registrar to join the Trauma & Orthopaedic department on a fixed term basis for 6 months with a view to extend to 12 months. There are multiple posts available to start as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

These are excellent opportunities for someone looking to gain more orthopaedic experience before applying for National ST selection in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

By the end of the year we would expect you to independently perform hip hemiarthroplasty, DHS, gamma nail of femur, ankle fixation, external fixation of tibia, MUA of common paediatric fractures, K wiring of wrists etc.

Depending on the allocation of your firms you will also gain experience of a variety of elective orthopaedic procedures. You will also become confident in the outpatient management of common fractures.

The hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital. The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will be encouraged to deliver at least 1 audit project during the 12 months and you will be given the opportunity to join on-going departmental research projects.

You will be working on a level equivalent to Middle Grade.

You will be an integral part of a team working for a consultant. You will attend your consultants elective lists and elective clinics. You will also be rostered for fracture clinics and regular trauma lists.

You may be expected to travel between hospital sites to attend peripheral clinics at West Berkshire Community Hospital, Newbury, Bracknell Healthspace and / or Townlands Hospital, Henley.

You will form part of the senior tier of on call duties joining a rota that is a resident on call rota.

Professional Qualifications

Essential

Full registration with the GMC with a current licence to practice. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Expected to have gained MRCS

Clinical Skills
