An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our growing team of Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNP) under Annex 21 training programme in NHS Lothian. ANNP training is to commence at the University of Southampton in September 2024. The student ANNP will have a Neonatal Consultant supervisor throughout the period of training to oversee the development of practice-based competence and learning.. This will be fully funded and supported.

We have vacancies for 2 training posts to work toward achieving MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner) to join our team. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, flexible, hardworking and positive thinking Qualified In Specialty trained nurses with minimum 2 years clinical experience. This is an incredibly rare opportunity.

NHS Lothian has 2 Neonatal Units and you will be expected to work on both sites pre and post qualifying. 

Our largest is at the Simpson Centre based within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) and is a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and admits around 850 infants per year. We are a busy unit with a maximum capacity of 39 neonatal cots with plans to expand our IC and HD cots in the future as part of the Best Start 

9 intensive care cots 8 high dependency cots 22 special care cots.

Our other unit is based at St. Johns Hospital in Livingston and is a Special Scare Unit (SCU), West Lothian has around 200 admissions per year and has a maximum capacity of 10 cots which is split between

2 stabilisation cots 2 High Dependency cots 8 Special Care cots

*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex 21 applies*

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate; more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified; more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate. more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
