Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at John Eastwood Hospice as a Band 3 Activities Coordinator.
John Eastwood Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients and those important to them as they approach the end of their lives. Working predominantly within the Living Well Centre day services you will develop and co-design a range of therapeutic activities to support the experience of inpatients and day attendees to the service. This post is part time and will role share with a second Activities coordinator.
You will be part of a dedicated MDT delivering high quality care to patients as they approach the end of life. Experience of working in a hospice or with people who are dying is preferable, however a full induction programme will be provided for the successful applicant. The service is supported by charitable funds and you will have a lot of freedom to develop ideas and take forward initiatives to improve patient experience.
Applicants should be creative and engaging with good communication and interpersonal skills. You should have high levels of empathy and resilience and be happy working within a wider team of mixed professionals in an environment which can be demanding.
Main duties of the job
Under the guidance of the Therapy Team Leader and you will be expected to assist in the design and development of a range of therapeutic activities for patients approaching the end of life, and those important to them. This will include activities to enhance quality of life by maintaining movement and mobility, recovering and adjusting to new roles, independence and relationship development and managing symptoms such as anxiety and pain. Activities will take place predominantly within the hospice and be offered within the Living Well Centre as well as to ward inpatients.
As part of your role you will be required to use your own resourcefulness, engage, form rapport and motivate people to participate in activities.
Candidates should be respectful, compassionate, creative and have good communication and problem solving skills, Experience of working with people approaching the end of their lives is desirable although not essential.
Supervision will be provided for the role and you will work closely with the other activity co-ordinator and the wider MDT to gain opportunities for support and training.
