Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for either a newly (or soon to be) qualified band 7 psychological therapist looking for a post with career progression or for an established band 8a psychological therapist to work in the London Women's Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) Service. This is a London pathways Partnership (LPP) service, led by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with CNWL NHS Foundation Trust and Together for Mental Wellbeing. MHTRs aim to reduce custodial sentences, improve wellbeing and address mental health needs associated with offending. MHTRs were introduced by the Criminal Justice Act in 2003, recognising that for many individuals who offend, mental health and substance misuse issues underpin their offending behaviour. This service aims to increase the use of MHTRs as part of a community sentence. The London Women's MHTR Service provides a primary-care level service and is also one of three pilot secondary care sites, testing pathways into secondary care services for individuals. The successful individual will have the opportunity to work across both services. Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work according to national MHTR guidance, and local procedures. The role will include:

Assessment of women prior to sentencing to consider suitability for an MHTR Holding a caseload and providing short-term psychological interventions for those that are sentenced to an MHTR Liaison with stakeholders including probation colleagues, court staff and secondary care mental health services Supervision of prequalified staff including trainees and assistant psychologists, and supervision of qualified staff dependent on experience Involvement in service research, audits and development

Job responsibilities

This post offers an exciting opportunity to work in the pan-London London WomensMental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) Service. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Entry-level qualification in applied psychological therapy/mental health/social welfare profession or equivalent and demonstrable practice in this field (ie professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level/supervised practice/additional training) that has been accepted for the purposes of professional registration. Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice (through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical psychological therapy practice, assessed by a registered body and/or an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher. Registered with professional body or regulatory body as appropriate to psychological therapy discipline ie HCPC/UKCP/BACP/BABCP. Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the professional body.

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of adult clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature under supervision Experience working with and addressing issues of diversity, including experience of working within a multicultural framework. Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

Completion of a minimum of two years full-time (or equivalent part-time) post-doctoral / post qualification supervised experience Experience of providing supervision to pre-qualified psychological therapies staff or students, or other professionals Experience of carrying out post-qualification research, audit or service evaluation projects. Experience of inter-agency working Experience of providing teaching and training to psychological practitioners or other professional groups.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Ability to administer, score and interpret psychometric and neuropsychological tests with appropriate training and supervision Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.

Desirable

Understanding psychological formulation for complex high risk service users. Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies and two assessment methodologies Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups Awareness of Criminal Justice and mental health services.
