SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time role begins in October and will run until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of a permanent position based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with special educational needs (SEN), helping them to engage in their learning and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers and the SENCo, your duties will include:

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support for students with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of tailored learning activities designed to meet individual student needs
  • Helping to implement personalised education plans (IEPs) for students, ensuring their learning targets are met
  • Supporting classroom teachers in managing behaviour and maintaining a positive, inclusive learning environment
  • Working with students to build their confidence, social skills, and independence, promoting a positive approach to learning
  • Assisting in monitoring and assessing student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and support staff
  • Offering emotional and pastoral support, helping students to manage anxiety, stress, or behavioural issues
  • Supporting students during break times and around the school to ensure they feel safe and included
  • Assisting with the preparation of resources and materials to support differentiated learning for SEN students
  • Collaborating with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure students receive comprehensive support

What We’re Looking For:

  • A genuine passion for working with young people with special educational needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • A proactive, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with additional needs
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an SEN or educational setting is highly desirable
  • An understanding of different learning difficulties and a willingness to develop further knowledge and skills in SEN
  • A flexible and adaptable attitude, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A desire to make a positive impact on the educational experience of students with SEN
