Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, dynamic, inclusive and innovative Director of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation to join our organisation and be part of a 6,500 workforce. Pharmacy services are provided from Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Lukes Hospital sites. In your role you will provide strategic, professional and operational leadership of pharmacy services across our organisation. Using your highly developed leadership skills and ability to motivate a team you will harness their abilities to drive and deliver transformation of pharmacy services in line with the strategic direction of the Trust to deliver safe patient-focused, cost-effective and high-quality services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide strong leadership and management of the pharmacy and medicines optimisation clinical service unit (PMOCSU) with combined duties of Clinical Director and General Management of the CSU. You will be accountable for Pharmaceutical Services provided to the Trust and will ensure that the Trust delivers to a high standard all relevant aspects of the medicines management and clinical governance agendas.

There are over 6,500 staff employed within the Trust and the vast majority (> 80%) either undertake drug related activities and/or have responsibilities directly or indirectly associated with medicines optimisation. Medicines optimisationencompasses the selection, procurement, dispensing, delivery, prescribing, administration and review of medicines to optimise the contribution they make to produce informed and desired outcomes of patient care. It includes all the related processes, activities and systems inside and outside of pharmacy undertaken by doctors, nurses, porters, GPs, pharmacy staff etc.

Pharmacy services are provided from Bradford Royal Infirmary. Services are provided to community hospitals and several other external customers.

The PMOCSU provides a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical services to the Trust and the successful candidate is required to demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. The main duties of the role can be found within the job description.

Qualifications

Essential

Masters or equivalent degree in Pharmacy Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Postgraduate clinical qualification and/or significant relevant clinical experience. Postgraduate management qualification and/or significant relevant management experience Masters level or equivalent experience in leadership and management

Desirable

Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and credentialed or working towards being credentialled

High level business planning and development skills, including proven experience of planning, leading and delivering change which resulted in measurable benefits for an organisation. Human resource management, including evidence of personal and team development, performance management and complex workforce redesign Detailed awareness of the strategic influences affecting provision of pharmacy and medicines optimisation services Evidence of commitment to Continuing Professional Development Evidence of experience of the design, development and utilisation of Pharmacy IT systems.
