Job summary

An exciting opportunity hasarisen for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to work within Medical SameDay Emergency Care (SDEC) at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

SDEC is a newly expanded, acutemedical area. SDEC is a model ofdelivering care within the urgent and emergency system aiming to deliver careon the same day, as an alternative to long Emergency Department (ED) attendanceor hospital admission. This model is based on the premise that a significantproportion of patients can be safely managed without an admission and withoutcompromising quality. SDEC at the Alexandra hospital receives referrals fromthe ED, general practice (GP), NHS 111, West Midlands Ambulance Service as wellas numerous other community providers. Overall we see anddischarge 40-50% of the daily medical take.

Thecandidate will be expected to work between 7:00 -19:30 Monday to Sunday,including bank holidays on a pro rata basis.

Main duties of the job

Theideal candidate for this position would be an experienced ACP, be able to workautonomously, be self-motivated, and adopt a proactive approach. They shoulddemonstrate the ability to efficiently manage multiple patients concurrentlyand delegate tasks when required. Additionally, candidates must have completeda full MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice with Health Assessment at Level 7 anda Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (v300).

The successful candidate will be a skilled practitioner able to providecare and decision making for acutely unwell adults with the aim of reducingpotential admissions by fostering the Same Day Emergency Care philosophy.

Weare currently seeking an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) with specialisedexperience in Acute Medicine. Candidates with expertise in Cardiology,Neurology, or Respiratory medicine are particularly encouraged to apply, astheir specialised knowledge would greatly enhance our medical SDEC service.

Job responsibilities

As part of a multi-professionalteam, led by Chloe Hartles, the post holder will practice autonomously, whilstbeing accountable and self-directed in line with the relevant code ofprofessional conduct.

The post holder will haveadvanced communication skills in presenting with differential andun-differential diagnosis, decision-making and problem-solving skills forpatients, and work to improve outcomes.

They will join amulti-professional team, working collaboratively in the Ambulatory EmergencyCare, to provide initial assessment and ongoing care for new and returningpatients.

This will include theresponsibility for the daily management of a caseload of patients, in collaboration with theconsultant nurse and/or physician.

Nursing degree or equivalent qualification Masters in Advanced Practice (MSc) and competence in managing acute illness (medical, surgical) and injury Previous ALS / EPALS / APLS / ETC / ATLS Provider with update in last 5 years, or evidence of recent learning and development around life support course objectives Non-Medical Prescribing

Clinical Experience Experience as a fully trained ACP working in an Urgent Care/Acute Medicine/ED Ability to manage differentiated and undifferentiated presentations in all areas / streams in the Acute Medicine Knowledge to request and interpret appropriate investigations within accepted policies and practice Management & Administrative Experience Experience in managing and developing other healthcare professionals Experience in establishing or helping to develop a service through quality improvement Teaching Experience Coordination of teaching programmes / conferences for the development of trainee ACPs Teaching of junior medical staff and/or involvement in medical training programmes Experience as a clinical or educational supervisor of trainee ACPs Research experience Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems Good knowledge of critical appraisal and ability to use literature and current research / guidelines to improve patient care Evidence of involvement in quality improvement or audit projects that have made a direct contribution to the improvement of a service
