SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Contract Type: Part-time/Full-Time

GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is looking for an individual with a passion to support the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of young people to join as a SEMH Teaching Assistant in our secondary client schools.

Job summary:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, helping students overcome barriers to their education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counsellors, and other support staff.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources.

Requirements:

  • A recent degree or specializations in special education, psychology, social work or a related field that is particularly relevant for SEMH teaching.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective support strategies.
  • An updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
