SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary

Beginning in September 2024, GSL Education will be hiring a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary for a client school located in North Sheilds, Newcastle. This role involves providing vital support to students dealing with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary, you will collaborate closely with experienced educators to deliver personalized assistance in both one-on-one and small group settings. Your support will be crucial in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary, your role will involve:

  • Assisting teachers in the classroom with students who have SEMH needs.
  • Supporting students with their emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Implementing tailored strategies to enhance students' learning experiences.
  • Working closely with the SENCO and other support staff to create an environment that embraces diversity in learning.
  • Monitoring and recording students' progress and wellbeing.
  • Helping to plan and deliver interventions for students with SEMH needs.

Requirements of SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary:

  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs is preferred.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, psychology, counselling, or related fields desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Creativity and adaptability to design and implement effective support strategies.
  • A proactive approach to supporting teaching and learning.
  • Flexibility and resilience in a dynamic educational environment.
