Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse looking to progress their career within Neuro Oncology nursing. You will work in the Neuro oncology team as a clinical nurse specialist providing follow up care and advice to this tumour patient group, hosting nurse led clinics virtually and participating in research. You will join a team of professionals with expert knowledge in the investigation and treatment of patients with brain tumours.

The Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) is one of the largest neuroscience centres in the country providing services to a population of 3 million people. Sitting within a large teaching hospital we are committed to maintaining high standards of care and developing our specialist services for the community. The Wessex Neurological Unit consists of: Neurosurgery, Neurology, Acute Stroke, Spinal Service, Neurophysiology and Neuro OPD/ Pre-assessment.

Job responsibilities

WHAT YOULL DO

The Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care for a defined patient/client group, practicing autonomously as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team. Duties will include but not restricted to:

Working within a team to provide the safe therapeutic management of a defined patient / client caseload.

The identified key worker for a patient/client caseload to co-ordinate / oversee therapeutic treatment and care.

Work across professional, departmental and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care, particularly relating to nurse-led care initiatives.

Provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals. Practice clinically in agreed care settings and support the Lead Neuro Oncology CNS regarding the overall management of the service.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

You will need to have recent relevant experience of working at band 6/equivalent or above within this speciality. You will be self-motivated to develop, have excellent communication skills, able to work autonomously within the multi-disciplinary team, and demonstrate excellent decision-making skills.
