Step Teachers are seeking an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead at a combined primary and secondary school in Romford due to start immediately. This role carries a significant level of responsibility and as part of your role, you will report directly to the senior leadership team within the school. 

Designated Safeguarding Lead Role:

  • Managing referrals to social care, the police or other authorities as appropriate
  • Working with staff, parents, students, safeguarding partners and relevant agencies
  • Raising awareness about the different aspects of safeguarding as appropriate to students, staff and parents
  • Undergo regular training and refresh knowledge and skills regularly
  • Providing support to staff to help them feel confident on welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters
  • Encouraging a culture among all staff to listen to students and take account of their wishes and feelings with empathy
  • Keeping concise, detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals, and understanding how and when to share, and understand relevant data protection legislation

Designated Safeguarding Lead Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead is a must 
  • Extensive knowledge of education &; safeguarding legislation
  • Familiarity with national &; local safeguarding requirements, processes and resources
  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their well-being inside and outside the classroom
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A relevant qualification in Education is desirable
