An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Trust’s Safeguarding Team in a job share as the Safeguarding Advisor
- Mental Capacity Act (MCA) & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses with substantial experience of working in a healthcare environment at a senior level, with a good knowledge of the MCA & DoLS and a sound understanding of adult safeguarding processes.

The post holder will be working within a dynamic Safeguarding Team, taking a lead on the Trust’s compliance with the MCA, DoLS & Prevent duties and responsible for overseeing the administration of DoLS at BHRUT They will also be involved with more general safeguarding adult enquiries in liaison with other members of the Safeguarding Team.

We are looking for someone who has effective organisational skills and excellent communication skills, confident with supporting staff from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. The post holder will be responsible for providing information, specialist advice and training on MCA and DoLS across this busy acute general Trust.

The role would ideally suit a nurse who is enthusiastic about promoting good practice around the MCA and DoLS and who will adopt a proactive approach to promoting the legal rights of patients that may lack capacity to consent to treatment.

The post holder will share the post as part of the Safeguarding Adults Team primarily responsible for the operational co-ordination and delivery of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and Prevent agendas. The post holder will be a registered nurse, ideally an RMN, with substantial experience of working in a mental health setting and hospital environment with in-depth knowledge of MCA and DoLS, and will be instrumental in supporting the transition from DoLS to the new legislative framework of the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) when this comes into force.

In addition, the post holder will be expected to actively contribute to aspects of the Safeguarding Team function in conjunction with the Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults.

Under the leadership of our Chair, Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive we provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south-west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and this will be one of the many benefits of our closer collaboration with Barts Health. Working with them and with all our partners across north east London, we will find a sustainable solution to enhance patient care.
