An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person who is passionate about providing a high quality Sexual Health service in our Chichester clinic. Our Chichester clinic is based within the outpatients department of St Richards Hospital, and is part of the West Sussex Integrated Sexual Health Service which also runs services in Worthing, Crawley, Horsham and Bognor. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing a small team of nursing and administration staff. They will work with the operational group to ensure the service meets contractual expectations and key performance indicators. As part of the multi-disciplinary team of nursing, admin and medical staff the post holder will demonstrate excellent clinical skills, be trained in both GUM and contraception and should also hold a LOC for implant removal and fitting. They will have experience in managing a department on a regular basis and in managing staff with experience in recruitment, sickness management, competency and disciplinary. They will be expected to uphold the values of the Trust and follow a patient first approach to improving the quality of care for patients and to build and embed a culture where staff are confident raise their views be heard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead on the provision of the Integrated Sexual Health Service (ISHS) within the locality (hub and spokes). Responsible for the management of the nursing and administration team within the hub.

Works with the Operational Group to ensure the service design and processes meet local and national initiatives, targets, contractual expectations and key performance indicators, demonstrating the planning and implementation of an integrated model for sexual health.

Acts as a role model for best practice, demonstrating Trust Values and providing specialist knowledge and advice to other staff both within the service and in partner agencies.

Assesses patients/clients, plans, implements care, provides specialist procedures and advice which are up to date and evidence based, delivering factual and current information on all methods of contraception, sexual health, health promotion, health checks and other relevant services which will lead to empowering clients to make their own decision and appropriate choice for their sexual health. Maintains associated records

Supports service wide staff and visiting undergraduate and graduate students in the achievement of competencies, ensuring the department provides appropriate learning opportunities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Acting as a professional role model, works as an advanced practitioner, demonstrating clinical expertise in the care of any patients/clients receiving treatment across West Sussex Integrated Sexual Health Service, following agreed clinical policies and protocols and working in close collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

·Issues prescription only medicines/treatments in accordance with local care pathways and Patient Group Directions, and in accordance with the NMC Administration of Medicines Guidelines

Represents the department at service level governance and operational meetings providing factual information and statistical data as required and assist in decision making processes

As Team Manager will demonstrate skills in HR issues and take responsibility for the recruitment and selection of staff, managing sickness and Health and Wellbeing, staff competency and any disciplinary issues of all line managed staff and as determined by Trust policy and the management team. Supports less experienced staff in the line management of others as part of their development.

·Undertakes/contributes to research/audit within the service and will support colleagues undertaking research/audit, both locally and county wide

·Acts as a visible and competent lead, role model and motivator to clinical and non- clinical staff across the locality and service.

Registered Adult Nurse (General) Associate member or Diplomate of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health Care

Desirable criteria

Study to Masters level Non-medical prescribing Advanced STIF Competencies Letter of Competence for IUD (or working towards)

Study at degree level or equivalent level of knowledge Nationally recognised approved CASH qualification e.g. NDFRSH; NA 298/NA394/NA6138; ENB 90/900/R71 Letter of Competence for Sub Dermal Implants insertion and removal (or working towards) Intermediate STIF competencies Recognised qualification in teaching and assessing/Mentorship Recognised qualification in Management

People Management

Essential criteria

Managing a department/service on a regular basis, including the management of staff. Supervision and teaching of learners/post basic students. Managing staff - Has been involved in recruitment and selection, management of sickness, disciplinary and capability as well as complete appraisals of staff, including developing PDP. Organises rota using optimal skill mix to complement medical skills

Essential criteria

Highly developed skill demonstrating dexterity and precision for insertion of implants and IUD. Good range of skills developed through practice which ensures accuracy e.g. venepuncture, POCT, wart treatment, use of a microscope
