Job summary

We are currently recruiting two full time Nursing Associate to join the Early Days in Custody team at HMP Elmley.

Within this role you will contribute to the health and wellbeing of patients and service users across all health and care settings. As a Nursing Associate you will deliver high quality, personalized, safe, compassionate care in the best interest of people. You will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours required across the fields of nursing, providing holistic care and support for patients.

You will work independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing. You will recognise and work within the limits of your competence. You will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct and be registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council. (NMC).

Main duties of the job

To support qualified staff in all activities relating to the delivery of high-quality patient centred care. Work and act as a key member of the team, supporting each patient in achievement of their planned outcomes. Set up and support clinics for patients. To undertake an extended role offender-focused health promotion activities and programmes.

Job responsibilities

Assist patients will all activities of daily living (eating and drinking, movement, physical comfort, personal hygiene and use of toilet facilities). Communicate effectively with patients and the multi-disciplinary team. Participate in planning and liaison activities for patients. Inform a registered nurse as soon as possible when any change in a patients condition is noticed. Support patients in change due to admission, discharge, death or personal loss and in adapting to their new environment. Report any complaints or requests for information from patients immediately to the senior nurse on duty to enable prompt response. Report all risks to the senior nursing staff. Assist in the general running of the department by undertaking housekeeping and clerical duties as appropriate. Participate in appraisal and training of self to develop a personal development plan and strive to achieve the set objectives, Undertake any other duties commensurate to the grade and as requested by the line manager. Attend staff meetings, updates and attend mandatory training as required. Work closely with Management to ensure that the Prison Health Agenda is supported at all levels in the Practice. Develop and maintain effective communications with all interested parties. Actively engaging with offenders in the provision of holistic, needs-led care which takes into account the physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs of individuals and groups. IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ:

All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of the pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.

Address History:

5 years address history will be needed.

Applicants that are not UK Passport holders who provide less than 5 years UK address history will need to provide a Police Certificate which must be in English from where they resided previously.

Applicants who are UK Passport holders who have lived abroad for a period of more than six months during the last three years will need to provide a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the countries resided in or visited.

Education/Qualifications

Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification. English and Mathematics basic qualifications (eg GCSE at Grade C or above , New GCSE Grade 4-9 in Maths and English Language or evidence of Level 2 in Functional skills for numeracy and literacy)

Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi- disciplinary team Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development
