Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacy Technician with a positive outlook to join our friendly and welcoming team at the Horton hospital in Banbury (part of OUHFT), an acute admissions hospital in North Oxfordshire.Applicants must hold NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services or equivalent recognised qualification, applicants must also be registered with the GPhC. Applications welcomed from newly qualified or community based technicians and those who already have ACT and MMT note that the full band 5 salary will only apply once you are accredited in both ACT and MMT. You will receive full training if you are not already accredited. These accreditations will allow you to be part of our clinical pharmacy team supporting with medicines optimisation, medication history taking and POD checking whilst supporting the nursing teams manage medications on our busy admissions ward and our high care unit teams.

Technicians without both ACT and MMT will be appointed at band 4 and receive uplift to band 5 on completion of both the stand alone ACT and MMT accreditations. Newly qualified Technicians who have completed the Integrated Level 3 apprenticeship incorporating both ACT and MMT, will be appointed at 75% top of band 5 and receive uplift to band 5 subject to successful sign off at 6 month review

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Technician role is varied, and requires flexibility in your approach to work, supporting both clinical teams with a smaller proportion of your time working with the dispensary team at the Horton. You will also support the training and induction of new members of the team, pharmacy apprentices, trainee technicians and pharmacists working alongside based tasks will include assessing of patients own drugs, medicines reconciliation and one stop ordering. Excellent customer service skills are essential in this role as you will answer the phone, dealing with queries from our service users. You will have the opportunity to be involved in supporting service development/quality improvements and audits. Electronic prescribing has been rolled out in all clinical areas in the hospital. Full training and shadowing of staff will be part of your induction.

To be part of the Pharmacy team providing a near-patient medicines management service to ward To become an accredited Medicines Management Technician, or complete reaccreditation in order totransfer skills where To become accredited to assess PODs according to the Trusts To implement and maintain the POD scheme according to Trust To train nursing, medical and pharmacy staff regarding the POD To become accredited to initiate the supply of non-stock items for one-stop/full pack To become accredited to complete medicines reconciliation using a variety of available To aid discharge planning in conjunction with the clinical pharmacist and ward To work with the clinical pharmacist and ward staff to support medicines management at ward To become accredited to undertake patient counselling on selected patients warfarin initiation, To work with the clinical pharmacist to counsel patients on their discharge To become accredited to complete controlled drug checks for selected wards within the Refer interventions to the Clinical Pharmacist, and to report and investigate incidents where Work with the ward team to ensure safe storage of medicines at ward level, including temperature checksand appropriate storage of controlled To liaise with ward staff over any relevant medicines management To become accredited to undertake homecare prescription validation as appropriate to clinical To become accredited to undertake medicines related blood monitoring as appropriate to clinical In conjunction with the clinical pharmacist and ward staff, to support the maintenance and updating of wardstock lists for the designated clinical To work closely with the ward pharmacy top-up assistant in maintaining a well-controlled and appropriatemedication and fluid stock To participate in the audit of the medicines management service, as well as departmental and Trust-widemedication audits, as requested by the Clinical Pharmacist Manager or Ward Based Technician Manager21. To participate in the training of new or existing technicians or ward based assistants on the medicinesmanagement To participate in a reciprocal cover arrangement to maintain the medicines management To work closely with the Directorate Pharmacist to ensure high cost drugs for outliers are accurately issuedand Regularly review drug use and expenditure together with the Directorate pharmacist, and report on thiswhen To document and audit financial drug savings and returns, and to produce To be responsible for the timely return or transfer of medicines between pharmacy and the wards.
