We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacy Technician with a positive outlook to join our friendly and welcoming team at the Horton hospital in Banbury (part of OUHFT), an acute admissions hospital in North Oxfordshire.Applicants must hold NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services or equivalent recognised qualification, applicants must also be registered with the GPhC. Applications welcomed from newly qualified or community based technicians and those who already have ACT and MMT accreditation.Please note that the full band 5 salary will only apply once you are accredited in both ACT and MMT. You will receive full training if you are not already accredited. These accreditations will allow you to be part of our clinical pharmacy team supporting with medicines optimisation, medication history taking and POD checking whilst supporting the nursing teams manage medications on our busy admissions ward and our high care unit teams.


Technicians without both ACT and MMT will be appointed at band 4 and receive uplift to band 5 on completion of both the stand alone ACT and MMT accreditations. Newly qualified Technicians who have completed the Integrated Level 3 apprenticeship incorporating both ACT and MMT, will be appointed at 75% top of band 5 and receive uplift to band 5 subject to successful sign off at 6 month review
You will also support the training and induction of new members of the team, pharmacy apprentices, trainee technicians and pharmacists working alongside you.Ward based tasks will include assessing of patients own drugs, medicines reconciliation and one stop ordering. Excellent customer service skills are essential in this role as you will answer the phone, dealing with queries from our service users. You will have the opportunity to be involved in supporting service development/quality improvements and audits. Electronic prescribing has been rolled out in all clinical areas in the hospital. Full training and shadowing of staff will be part of your induction.

To be part of the Pharmacy team providing a near-patient medicines management service to ward areas.To become an accredited Medicines Management Technician, or complete reaccreditation in order totransfer skills where appropriate.To implement and maintain the POD scheme according to Trust policies.To train nursing, medical and pharmacy staff regarding the POD scheme.To become accredited to complete medicines reconciliation using a variety of available sources.To aid discharge planning in conjunction with the clinical pharmacist and ward staff.To work with the clinical pharmacist and ward staff to support medicines management at ward level.Work with the ward team to ensure safe storage of medicines at ward level, including temperature checksand appropriate storage of controlled drugs.To liaise with ward staff over any relevant medicines management issues.To become accredited to undertake medicines related blood monitoring as appropriate to clinical area.To participate in the audit of the medicines management service, as well as departmental and Trust-widemedication audits, as requested by the Clinical Pharmacist Manager or Ward Based Technician Manager21. To participate in the training of new or existing technicians or ward based assistants on the medicinesmanagement role.To participate in a reciprocal cover arrangement to maintain the medicines management service.To document and audit financial drug savings and returns, and to produce reports.To be responsible for the timely return or transfer of medicines between pharmacy and the wards.
Previous dispensing experience (hospital or community)
Accredited Checking technician or willing to undertake training
Accredited in Medicines Reconciliation or willing to undertake training
Esperience of working in hospital pharmacy
Experience of working on hospital wards
Previous medicines reconciliation experience
Previous experience of training/supervision of other staff
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
