About the role

The primary role is to lead, manage and develop the T&LD Team and the secondary role is to act as a Senior Training Consultant. The balance of time between these roles will vary depending upon the Team’s and business needs as determined by the Head of Training. The overall job involves working with customers in the private, public and Defence sectors conducting training / learning consultancy activities including consideration of wider HR and individual / business performance issues and objectives. This can require working alone and working at customer locations. It involves ensuring a high level of compliance with appropriate quality standards including, where relevant, the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT). You will also be required to ensure the team is working to the correct processes, providing QA and guidance where needed. There is a requirement to support the Sales and Marketing Team with bid submissions and marketing material. This role also deputises as the Business Unit Head when needed.


Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day running and resourcing of the T&LD Team and its outputs
  • Ensure appropriate Quality Assurance of all outputs
  • Actively support the Head of Training on Business planning and strategy development related to the T&LD Team
  • Be a fee earning Senior Training Consultant balanced with lead duties (Senior Training Consultant Job Specification can be provided for further detail)
  • In support of the Business Development team, proactively identify and purse new/expanded business opportunities, and develop the technical aspects of bids
  • Conduct performance appraisal and feedback sessions with T&LD Team members, thinking ahead to develop their needs and to act as appropriate
  • Lead and develop the T&LD Team including mentoring of junior staff and assessing and implementing training programs and personal development plans
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships between the Training, Digital Learning Design and Training Delivery Teams, and across CDS DS and the Bailie Group
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers from all Training projects including providing continuity for customers and a route for the escalation of customer issues where appropriate
  • Keep current on L&D activities, developments and thought leadership across the private, public and Defence sectors
  • Develop, review and implement all relevant processes and policies, including supporting the CDS DS Programme Management Office and the Training Project Managers
  • Assist with recruitment including CV sifts and interviews
  • Comply with CDS DS working practices and procedures and contribute to their further development.
  • Proactively promote and represent the Baird Group and their subsidiaries (CDS, Newspress and CDS DS)
  • Carry out other duties in support of the Head of Training as required.


Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in leading and managing a team and in bringing together multiple teams to achieve shared goals
  • A significant background in training, education, learning, behavioural and cultural change
  • Experience in delivering against JSP 822 and the DSAT Quality Standards, including the stages, activities and outputs required
  • Experience in the production and/or assurance of Training Needs Analysis reports and products in accordance with the DSAT Quality Standard
  • Experience in designing training in accordance with the DSAT Quality Standard
  • Experience in developing training materials including the exploitation of Digital Learning Design
  • Knowledge of Methods and Media selection and products
  • A team player with respect for colleagues and customers, and with a drive to establish, maintain and develop working relationships based on confidence, trust, and respect
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, including technical specialists and Subject Matter Experts, and to build positive relationships with individuals and between teams
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and people influencing skills
  • A clear and confident communicator, verbally and in writing, and a practitioner in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Holding, or capable of achieving, a minimum of SC security clearance
  • A valid, full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • A post-graduate qualification relating to Training and Education or working towards one
  • Experience of working as a training consultant outside the Defence sector
  • Experience of senior client engagement
  • A track record of customer facing business achievement
  • Experience in delivering within a growing commercial business and delivering ambitious targets.


Aspiration

As the T&LD Consultancy Manager you will be expected to continue to build your leadership and management knowledge and skills. As a Senior Training Consultant, you will be expected to continue to build your analytical and problem-solving skills, and your knowledge and expertise related to training consultancy across the private, public, and military sectors. You should demonstrate a desire to take on additional challenges and be prepared to be visionary and propose new thinking and ideas.

Location

  • Full time hybrid role, main office based in CDS DS office in Cheltenham and should expect to be in the office or client site when needed, approx. 2 days per week.
  • Willing to travel within the UK and abroad.
  • Willing to work at clients’ locations when required.
