Edinburgh, United Kingdom National Library of Scotland Full time

We’re looking for a customer-focussed and enthusiastic individual to join the Special Collections team in the Reader Services department. The team provides access to the library’s archives and manuscripts, rare books and music collections but also works collaboratively across the Reader Services and Collections, Access, and Research teams to maintain and improve access to the collections, through cataloguing and outreach work. The post is Monday-Wednesday and includes one evening shift (10.30-19.00) every two weeks and one Saturday shift (09.00-17.00) every four weeks. The Saturday shift will attract a lieu day on either the following Monday or Friday.

What we are looking for -

We’re looking for people who can work as part of a team delivering high quality customer service to users of the library. You will have excellent team working, communication and problem-solving skills and have experience of working in a customer service, information, library or arts administration role. You will be self-motivated and able to work without close supervision and be able to adapt and change your working methods when required. If this sounds like you, then we look forward to reading your application.

What we can offer you -

If you are successful, you will be working for one of Scotland’s premier cultural institutions, a library that holds the nation’s memory in its vast collections. You’ll have the opportunity to work flexibly, where the service allows, and we’ll provide you with training and development opportunities. We have generous annual leave and offer a pension scheme. And of course, you’ll join a team of great colleagues.

We encourage applications from people who belong to marginalised communities particularly people of colour, those from a working class background, disabled and LGBTQ+ people.

If you have any questions about the role please contact Hazel Stewart, Special Collections Reading Room Manager (). Interviews will be held on 19 June 2024.
