We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Community Mental Health Hub for Adults and Older Adults in Kingsbury on a locum basis. The successful candidate will provide expert psychiatric care, leadership, and clinical management within a multidisciplinary team. This role involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a diverse patient population, with a focus on promoting mental health and well-being within the community.

Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of adults and older adults presenting with a range of mental health conditions.

Utilize standardized diagnostic tools and clinical interviews to formulate diagnoses.

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient goals.

Therapeutic Interventions

Provide evidence-based psychiatric treatment, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and psychosocial interventions.

Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress and response to therapy.

Manage complex cases involving co-morbid conditions, treatment-resistant disorders, and psychosocial factors.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals.

Participate in regular team meetings, case conferences, and care planning sessions.

Provide expert consultation and support to team members regarding psychiatric care and management.

Leadership and Supervision

Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior doctors, psychiatric trainees, and other healthcare staff.

Promote best practices in psychiatric care and contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery.

Engage in teaching and training activities for medical students, residents, and other trainees.

Patient and Family Support

Engage with patients and their families to provide education, support, and guidance on mental health conditions and treatment options.

Foster a therapeutic relationship with patients, ensuring their involvement in care decisions.

Address concerns and queries from patients and their families in a compassionate and professional manner.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and organizational standards for documentation.

Prepare detailed reports and updates for the multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders.

Quality Improvement and Professional Development

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.

Stay current with advancements in psychiatry and mental health through continuing professional development (CPD) activities.

Engage in reflective practice and clinical supervision to maintain high standards of care.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Must be AC Approved
  • Medical degree and completion of specialist training in psychiatry.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in a relevant clinical setting.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a community mental health setting.
  • Additional qualifications or certifications in geriatric psychiatry, psychotherapy, or related areas.
  • Experience in conducting and participating in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
