How you'll make a difference

You will join a friendly and supportive professional team of psychologists to promote inclusion by applying psychology to bring about positive change. You will be solution focussed and innovative in your approach to promote child development and learning.

This post is restricted to permanent and temporary employees of South Gloucestershire Council only 

What will you be doing?

You will work with individual children, teachers and other adults in schools, families and other local authority officers and partner agencies to contribute to the best outcomes for the children and young people of South Gloucestershire. You will support schools to deliver the graduated approach for children, young people and young adults aged 0-25, who may have Special Educational Needs, through systemic work, casework, delivering training and with knowledge of evidence informed interventions. You may also support others about whom there may be a concern as outlined in the Code of Practice . You will carry out psychological assessments as part of the Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment and Annual Review process. You will lead on an area of interest within the service and contribute to the development of joined up working with other relevant professionals and agencies. This could contribute to the development of expertise in areas that schools would wish to purchase. 

Things we need you to know: 

All applicants must be fluent in the English Language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role) This post is designated as politically sensitive under the Local Government and Housing Act by virtue of the remuneration level being or exceeding spinal column point 44 or equivalent.

What we need from you

Note that if you are in your final year of training, you should be working towards the criteria listed below.

1) Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council

2) A fully qualified Educational Psychologist has either:

A) An Honours Degree in Psychology (or equivalent acceptable for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society), a recognised teaching qualification, at least two years qualified classroom teaching experience and a Masters qualification in Educational Psychology.

Or:

B) An Honours Degree in Psychology (or equivalent acceptable for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society), considerable experience working with children and/or young people and their families and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology.

You will be able to demonstrate evidence of having developed special interests within the field of Psychology. You should have experience of working as a main scale Educational Psychologist and must be able to demonstrate the following: Proven ability to deliver high quality casework; Ability to think and work strategically; Evidence of innovative practice; Use of initiative to develop project work, contribute to the development of new and existing areas of the traded service. You must have knowledge of relevant legislation as it affects schools and early years’ settings in general and EP work in particular. You will demonstrate an adaptable, positive and co-operative approach to others, with a creative approach to problem-solving. It is essential you are able to prioritise workload, to meet deadlines and to conform to administrative requirements. It would be beneficial to have experience of working or delivering a traded Educational Psychology service model. Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
