SEN Tutor Salary: £25 to £30 per hour

Contract: Part-Time/Full-Time


GSL Education’s South Yorkshire branch are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEN Tutor to work in Sheffield, supporting learners with a wide range of Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role will involve working with students who have Autism, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and other complex needs. The learners you will support are working across different academic levels, from P Levels to GCSE. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational and personal development of young people with SEN.

Key Responsibilities for SEN Tutor:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group tutoring sessions, specifically tailored to meet the needs of students with varying SEN, including Autism, PMLD, and complex needs.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, and other specialists to ensure individual learning plans (EHCPs) are fully implemented and adhered to.
  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons that cater to a range of abilities, ensuring accessibility for students working at levels from P Levels to GCSE.
  • Use creative and adaptable teaching methods to engage students, fostering both their academic and personal growth.
  • Continuously assess student progress, keeping detailed records and adjusting teaching strategies to support their development.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques and provide a safe, supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Develop resources and learning materials that are appropriate for students’ individual needs, ensuring they have the tools required for success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide updates on progress and discuss any necessary interventions.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies, always ensuring the safety and well-being of all learners.

Requirements for SEN Tutor:

  • Proven experience working with learners with a wide range of SEN, including Autism and PMLD, with the ability to support students with complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of educational levels, particularly P Levels and GCSE, with the ability to differentiate learning materials and strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviors, using positive and supportive approaches tailored to the needs of SEN learners.
  • Teaching qualifications or equivalent experience in working with SEN learners, including knowledge of EHCPs and differentiated planning.
  • Patience, resilience, and a passion for helping students with SEN achieve their full potential.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple learners’ needs and track their progress effectively.
