Job summary

Hampshire CAMHS West Early Help Service are offering an exciting opportunity to join our multi disciplinary team covering New Forest, Eastleigh and Winchester/Test Valley (this may change in due course) as a band 6 Primary Mental Health Worker. A core qualification in nursing, social work or occupational therapist is essential and you should be 2 years post qualified. The ability to drive and a willingness to travel is essential as we cover a wide geographical area.

You will have experience of risk assessment, care planning and care management and collaborative working with young people and families as this is a key part of this role. Experience of working with children and young people with mental health challenges is highly desirable. A good knowledge and understanding of mental health issues in children and young people and the impact of these on them and their families is essential.

The service is undergoing a period of growth and development, as we seek to expand and develop our stepped model of care for young people, delivering our various anxiety based groups and emotional coping skills and resilience focused work. You will have the flexibility of working in schools delivering mental health forums, workshops, training and other interventions. You will undertake assessments for the service and more specialist assessments where appropriate, and there may be opportunities to hold a small case load and deliver specialist and evidence based therapeutic interventions.

Main duties of the job

You will have a thorough knowledge of assessment and understanding a mental health presentations in children and young people, and systemic appreciation of the dynamics within families. You will have a range of therapeutic skills and demonstrable experience in managing risk and complexity. You will be contributing to a comprehensive group work programme under the developing "Stepped Model" of intervention alongside completing CAMHS Assessments and undertaking the duty function associated. You will liaise with our community partners and internal and external stakeholders. You may opportunities to hold a small case load.

This opportunity will hold supervision and line management responsibilities.

You will hold a professional Qualification in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing with full Registration and have 2 years experience of working within CAMHS or equivalent.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Professional qualification, with evidence of continuing professional development, in a field relevant to child and adolescent mental Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy.

Desirable

Evidence of clinical training in a field relevant to the post eg brief psychotherapy, solution focused approaches, cognitive behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing, or systemic work.

Experience

Essential

Significant experience of working with Children & Families Significant level of experience of working with children and families, including work with child mental health needs. Significant level of experience working within a CAMHS or a CAMHS related field. To be able to recognise in children and young people a wide range of clinical and behavioural presentations. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to safeguard and protect children and young people's welfare in line with the Children Act 2004 requirements Demonstrate skills to assess risk using already established assessment tools Demonstrate knowledge and skills for systemic assessment of risk factors in the environment and skills to develop a range of strategies to address identified risk Demonstrate knowledge and skills for development of protocols with families and other staff / practitioners to manage risk Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitude to promote safety for themselves and others Experience of mental health assessment Working knowledge of Health, Social and Caring Services, Education and the Voluntary Sector, together with the relevant legislation regarding both children and mental health. Experience of working in partnership with other agencies, and multi-disciplinary working. Ability to work in partnership with children and families. Qualities essential to clinical practice, including, for example, respect, genuineness, empathy, personal integrity. Communication skills, to enable the helping relationship and process. Ability to develop and deliver training packages in child and adolescent mental health. Ability to manage a caseload. Clinical leadership. Experience of working with multi-agency partners and planning best outcomes for children and young people Ability to listen empathetically to children and young people and their families in order to work effectively in partnership RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Experience of service evaluation and audit.

Ability to provide consultation. Ability to plan, commission and implement research projects.
