Main duties of the job

Thisis an exciting role in General Practice combining patient-facing, analyticaland administrative elements of work.Working alongside a PCN Pharmacy team, the post-holder will helppatients to get the best from their medicines by communicating medicationchanges to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribingprocesses in General Practice, including promotion of repeat dispensing andonline ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wastedmedicines.

Thesuccessful candidate will be supported in terms of learning and professionaldevelopment through regular Practice team meetings on a variety of topics. As part of a growing Pharmacy Technician Teamin the PCN there is also a programme of peer support events and team meetingsin place.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Support the PCN multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficientmedicines optimisation processes are being followed.

Stream general prescription requests and work with the reception/medicalmanagement teams, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review themore clinically complex requests.

Assist patients with responses to medication queries

Provide training and support on the legal, safe and securehandling of medicines, including the implementation and increased use of theElectronic Prescription Services (EPS).

Promote Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) and online ordering asappropriate to patient and practice needs.

Implement efficient ordering and return processes and reducemedication wastage, liaising with patients as needed.

Support the implementation of national prescribing policies andguidance with GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.

Help to organise and run various systems for the delivery of QOFand locally commissioned enhanced services.

Review and develop policies in line with CQC compliance

Develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals andmembers of the multi-disciplinary team including primary care, communitypharmacy, secondary care and mental health.

Contribute to the delivery of effective signposting, recordupdates and relate communication.

Through the use of audit and action planning, help to tacklehealth inequalities.

Undertake the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE)Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway.

Qualifications

Essential

Professional registration with GPhC BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences Evidence of continued professional development (CPD) Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community, or hospital pharmacy. Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology Computer literate (MS office packages) Excellent organisational skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to adjust to suit the audience Strong understanding of data protection and confidentiality Self-motivated and proactive Be willing to commit to have already completed the CPPE pathway
