Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Community Speech & Language Therapy service. The successful candidate will join an experienced team of therapists, clinical support workers and administrators, managing a caseload of adults with communication and swallowing needs across High Weald, Lewes and Havens areas. Applicants must have experience in working with the client group, as well as excellent time management, communication and clinical reasoning skills. Main duties of the job

To be a specialist therapist within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service, providing a comprehensive, specialist clinical service to clients referred with communication and or swallowing difficulties. To be an active member of the adult SLT service and a specialist resource, including liaison with other SLTs and other professionals external to the service in relation to specialist information, analysis and advice on continuing care. To comply with the standards and priorities laid down by the SLT service and Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree (or recognised equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy Registered member RCSLT and HCPC Postgraduate and experiential training in relevant areas

Desirable

Membership of relevant SIG(s)

Experience

Essential

Min 2 years post-graduation in clinical specialism(s) in acquired adult disorders Post basic training and experience in dysphagia Inter disciplinary team working, ideally in varied settings Participation in provision of training to others Supporting student placements Implementing quality standards, care protocols, risk management and clinical effectiveness measures related to caseload Mentoring less experienced staff

Skills and knowledge

Essential

Specialist clinician, able to demonstrate credibility, diagnostic skills and in depth knowledge of appropriate assessment and management Excellent written and verbal communication including observation, empathy and listening skills Ability to manage caseload independently Negotiation and conflict resolution skills Developing organisation, prioritisation, problem solving and planning skills Ability to monitor standards of practice, policies and protocols in accordance with clinical governance strategy Ability to implement and monitor clinical audit and clinical outcomes scales within the team Excellent analytical and reflection skills, demonstrates reflective practice Excellent auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically and analyse narrative linguistically Excellent interpersonal skills Thorough knowledge and practice relating to caseload Working knowledge of professional standards and policies related to clinical and management practice Understanding of the roles of other professionals relevant to caseload Knowledge of record keeping standards IT literacy

Presentation skills Knowledge of demand and capacity issues Knowledge of Government policies related to the area

Hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes Ability to forge networks locally, regionally and nationally.
