They support children and young people to understand what is being said to them, express themselves and produce the sounds needed for clear speech. In some cases, speech and language therapists alsowork to help children with their eating and drinking.

They also help with social communication skills and interacting with others, as well as specific conditions such as stammering or hearing impairment.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD), providing enhanced community support to people with Learning Disabilities who have challenging behaviour and/or mental health needs.

To undertake and support in the assessment, planning, leading and delivering a challenging needs response to people with Learning Disabilities who have challenging behaviour and/or mental health needs.

To work with all parties to assess, plan, implement and monitor Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) plans for people with Learning Disabilities who have challenging behaviour and/or mental health needs.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need:

Experience of working with individuals who are non-verbal or who have significant communication difficulties.

A minimum of 1 years experience of working with Adults or Children with Learning Disability or Autism in any job role.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

act as a professional resource and embed the principles of positive behaviour management within the multi-professional team. contribute to the overall success of the Trust by maintaining and improving high standards of care, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. provide professional guidance, support and advice to the workforce in relation to behaviour management. take responsibility to develop an area of clinical practice in partnership with other lead members of the team and the wider directorate. carry responsibility for a defined specialist caseload and/ or offer specialist advice which will include the setting of standards of care, the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care within the county. be responsible for developing and implementing high standards of clinical care ensuring the service provided is needs led, compliant with national and local guidelines and is viewed positively by children and young people and their families. Qualifications

Essential

Undergraduate degree in appropriate field

Desirable

PG Diploma in Applied Behaviour Analysis/Positive Behaviour Support and/or Intellectual and Development Disabilities or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

Experience of multi-disciplinary team working. A minimum of 1 years experience of working with Adults or Children with Learning Disability or Autism in any job role.

Desirable

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of Learning Disabilities, autism, mental health and/or research design and analysis
