Band 8a Clinical Psychologist

Solihull, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Psychologist to join our friendly multi-disciplinary team and help deliver a comprehensive pscyhodermatology service. Psychodermatology focuses upon the mind-skin connection and the interplay of skin symptoms with mood, quality of life, wellbeing and mental health. It is a relatively new field for psychologists to work in. This post is for an experienced, qualified clinical psychologist to work within our regional psychodermatology service.

You will be working within a very large dermatology department aiming to embed psychologically informed ways of working, as well as being a key part of the integrated psychodermatology MDT. You will offer joint assessment, formulation and intervention planning as part of this team.

You will be working with a vast range of dermatological issues including: repetitive body focussed behaviours, neurofibromatosis, dermatitis artefacta and concerns about skin infestation. You will work with a range of psychological presentations including body dysmorphia, PTSD, anxiety and relational patterns that can impact upon engagement.

The range of complexity, severity and readiness for change promotes a good balance of relatively brief interventions with more challenging and longer term psychological work.

Main duties of the job

Providing psychological perspective on the assessment, formulation and consultation in joint psychodermatology clinics.

As part of the joint clinics, following up on the progress made by those attending joint clinics, evaluating input so far and amending where necessary.

Providing individual and group psychological interventions for people with complex psychological needs arising from, or contributing to their dermatological condition.

Contributing to the psychologically informed thinking of the department.

Facilitating reflective practice sessions within the department.

Using leadership skills to identify areas for our service to improve and potential options to making these improvements.

Evaluating input and contributing to the delivery of an excellent psychological service.
