Job summary

The Senior Site Practitioner and Specialist Lead for Cataract Surgerywill be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care and leadership toall services, specifically focusing on cataract surgery.

This role involves overseeing the clinical practice, ensuring thehighest standards of patient care, leading and developing a team of healthcareprofessionals, and contributing to the continuous improvement of services.

The post holder will be professionallyaccountable for the maintenance of standards of professional practice andstandards of care.

They will have excellent communication skills, provide professional clinicalleadership, and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all teammembers. The post holder will undertake and supervise clinical practice,audit,andoversee the effective safe delivery of HCA ledclinics.

Clinical

Working inaccordance with Independent Health Groups values, the NMC or HCPC codes ofprofessional conduct, Independent Health Group policies and procedures, the SeniorSite Practitioner will ensure safe and effective care and treatment is providedto patients.

Responsibilities include:

Monitor and support the team to deliver highquality and safe patient care, during the whole of the care pathway and perioperativeperiod.

The post holder is responsible for reporting to theMatron on quality, safety, and outcome measures.

Oversee and conduct the timely completion ofwork-based competencies for all non-medical staff.

Recognise complications and deal with clinicalproblems in a safe and appropriate manner.

Provide post-operative advice and support to patients.

Be fully conversant with the requirements of Dutyof Candour and ensure the service practices in accordance with them.

Maintain health, safety, and infection preventionin clinical work areas.

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinicalrecords including computerised records using the Patient Administration System.

Deliver high quality patient care, in line with IHGpolicy and procedures to patients during the perioperative phase.

Ensure patient safety by following and implementingWHO surgical safety guidelines.

Demonstrate competence and flexibility as a TheatrePractitioner, scrub, admissions, discharge, and recovery.

Be responsible for co-ordinating the theatre listensuring effective start and finish times.

Ensure preparation of theatre and requiredequipment for the operating list is undertaken effectively, to prevent delaysor cancellations.

Be responsible for quality improvement, ensuring auditsare completed effectively and on time.

Be responsible for raising any complaints,incidents, near or misses and escalating any safeguarding concerns.

Demonstrate competence with current emergencyresuscitation techniques to ILS [HR1]level.

Manage own mandatory training compliance andsupport the team to complete their mandatory training on time.

Recognise the deteriorating patient using the NEWS2score to assess the patient escalating concerns effectively.

Provide post-operative advice and support topatients.

Provide an effective handover to ensure lists runeffectively in your absence.

Managerial

Provide leadership and supervision for the team.

Attend Clinical Review Meetings and Nursing/ODPmeetings.

Be inclusive, develop and promote good workingrelationships with the wider clinical and non-clinical teams in line with justculture principles.

Work collaboratively with other SeniorPractitioners.

Promote good clinical practice and participate inclinical governance, reporting of incidents, audit, and quality improvementinitiatives.

Ensure staff have a timely return to work meeting,liaising with HR as necessary.

Ensure that theatre stock levels, equipment andresources are maintained.

Manage the staffing rota in a timely manner, andattend weekly operations meetings, escalating any concerns.

Help create a healthy and safe work environment,implementing IHG policies relating to fire, health and safety, risk assessment andinfection control etc.

Continuous development

Take responsibility for identifying own learningand professional development needs, in consultation with the Matron. Take appropriateopportunities to maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.

Actively participate in the appraisal system andlead on the appraisals of the theatre team as directed.

With the Matron, ensure all newly appointed theatrestaff receive induction and ongoing learning and development appropriate totheir role.

Keep up to date with current professional practiceand research, maintain professional registration.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Degree in relevant field, or equivalent experience RGN or HCPC registration A registered health care professional with evidence of continuous professional development Willing to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery. Specialist qualification in relation to ophthalmology or willingness to undertaken

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Supervision, coaching and mentoring skills. Understands the importance of delivering high quality clinical care and the factors that influence it. Demonstrable Knowledge in relation to cataract Surgery Able to communicate effectively with patients from different backgrounds with differing levels of understanding. Able to present written and verbal information clearly and concisely, and handle questions. Understand the importance of teamwork and the role within the multi-disciplinary team. Maintains timely, accurate patient records.

Experience

Essential

Demonstrable experience of working in a leadership role within a theatre or similar setting A minimum of 1 years Scrub or Theatre experience with ability to scrub for cataract surgery. Able to competently Scrub for a variety of procedures. Operating within clinical governance and risk management frameworks
