The Role ofHead of Sports Science

BrentfordFC has an exciting opportunity for Head of SportsScience.

As part of the Performance ExecutiveGroup (PEG) the Head of Sports Science will play a pivotal part indelivering worldclass performance standards to Brentford FC. Theywill lead on the Sports Science Strategy in line with the Clubsperformance objectives and report into the Head of First TeamPerformance.

MainAccountabilities

  • StrategicLeadership: Develop and implement a comprehensivesports science strategy aligned with the Clubs performanceobjectives integrating cuttingedge methodologies practically toenhance player performance and minimise injuryrisk.
  • Management of SportsScience Team: Provide leadership and direction tothe sports science team including strength and conditioning coachessports scientists data scientists nutritionists and performanceconsultants fostering a culture of collaboration excellence andcontinuous improvement. This should include setting key performanceobjectives for all Sports Science staff that report into the Headof Sports Science and managing appraisals in line with the clubpolicy at that time. Linemanage Head of Academy Sports Science andstrategically add value to the Academys Sports Sciencestrategies.
  • Planning Monitoringand Data Collection: Lead on the collection andanalysis of player data utilising advanced sports sciencetechnologies and methodologies to monitor training loads fatiguelevels and physical performance metrics. As part of the PEG provideall the key metrics and information to feed into the optimal firstteam training schedule that the Head of First Team Performance willlead on.
  • Individualised TrainingProgrammes: Lead the performance staff to design andimplement individualized strength and conditioning trainingprogrammes tailored to the specific needs and goals of each playeroptimising physical preparation for training and match performance.Design and oversee clear metrics to monitor and evaluate thoseprogrammes in collaboration withPEG.
  • Injury Prevention andRehabilitation: Work collaboratively with PEG andthe medical team to develop and implement injury preventionstrategies and rehabilitation protocols ensuring the timely andeffective return of injured players to fullfitness.
  • Nutrition and RecoveryStrategies: Provide guidance and support to keyperformance staff regarding nutrition hydration and recoverystrategies optimising recovery between training sessions andmatches to maximise performance and minimise the risk ofinjury.
  • Sports Science Researchand Innovation: Stay abreast of the latestdevelopments in sports science research and technology integratinginnovative methodologies and practices into the clubs sportsscience programme to maintain a competitive edge. In tandem withthe Performance Director facilitate any performancebased researchprojects utilising the Brentford research centre to underpinpractice and constantly seek growth andimprovement.
  • Education andProfessional Development: Facilitate ongoingeducation and professional development opportunities for sportsscience staff and players promoting a culture of continuouslearning andgrowth.
  • InternationalPlayers: Work collaboratively with PEG other Clubstaff and National Federations where appropriate to comanageinternational players in the first teamsquad.
  • To work with the Safeguarding Team topromote safe working practice within your department and those youmanage.
  • To ensure that any concerns you observeor are raised with you in your role are shared with theSafeguarding Team through appropriate channels.
  • Ensure any contact and interaction withplayers complies with the Clubs Safeguarding Policy and that anyconcerns are shared with the Safeguarding Team through appropriatechannels.
