Role Summary

Looking to join a friendly collegiate team at the forefront of delivering innovative respiratory care in Devon? More detail about the role

The Royal Devon is seeking to appoint a consultant to our department of Respiratory Medicine based at the North Devon District Hospital site in Barnstaple, or with cross site working at the Barnstaple and Exeter sites if preferred.

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established in April 2, bringing together the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust to provide core services to a population of , and specialist services to a wider population across the South West Peninsula. It is a unique organisation with integrated acute and community services across North and mid Devon that shares one advanced electronic notes system (EPIC) with an integrated patient portal. The departments of respiratory medicine are fully integrated and so work closely together as one team. Consultants deliver face-to-face, and remote care from both the Barnstaple and Exeter sites. The department will support newly appointed consultants to develop sub-specialty interests and to pursue research and teaching interests.

The Royal Devon is committed to developing services in North Devon and wants to bring the very best clinicians to this beautiful part of the country. Our department is friendly, successful and highly innovative, as an early adopter of PIFU, we set the standard across the South West and our dedicated pleural procedures room and staffing are the envy of many of our colleagues from other Trusts. We run an innovative respiratory outreach service, a dedicated MND service and are always searching for new ways of working such as acute clinics with cardiologists and maximising the potential of EPIC, our new electronic patient record.

Specialty work is supported by an excellent team of advanced clinical practitioners and specialist nurses. The Trust has a multi-million-pound clinical research facility, is a NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, has a significant development budget, and big plans for the future.

Teamwork and family are very much at the core of our values and we take a flexible and fair approach to job planning including the opportunity for annualised job plans that provide greater freedom over the school holidays or planned sabbaticals.

We are based in Devon in the South West of England; a county renowned for its natural beauty including pristine beaches and beautiful moorland, excellent schools, good transport links and a great quality of life. If you are interested in finding out more about the position available, we would love to hear from you and would be delighted to host an exploratory weekend visit for you.

We understand that relocating for a new role can be a significant step, both personally and financially.  We offer a generous financial incentive, relocation package and support to help ease the transition for those considering relocation.

We are trialling a shortened recruitment process for this role, which will allow us to accept CVs or online applications. Please contact Emily Simpson on for a confidential informal chat in the first instance.
