in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

with 20% optional "Special Interest Project" in Education OR Quality Improvement

We are looking for two Senior Clinical Fellows in PEM, at middle grade level or above (see person specification), to help take the department forward. The fellowships will provide a fantastic opportunity to realise a project that will help bring about change while providing an excellent opportunity to train in PEM at a hospital that looks after a diverse population, including many children with complex needs.

20% of hours within the job plan for this posts will be available to work on and deliver world class, high level projects within the post holders' chosen fields.

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITY

The post-holders will be an integral part of the clinical team and will carry out the following duties:

Reception, examination, diagnosis, resuscitation, treatment and management of patients in the Emergency Department until appropriate transfer to inpatient facility or discharge home Supervision of more junior medical staff in the Emergency Department Participation in the Trust Major Incident Procedure Participation in delivering teaching to undergraduate students attached to the Department Attendance at departmental meetings as appropriate Participation in annual NHS appraisal You will complete and present your project nationally or locally

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice By the time of appointment, achievement of one of the following or equivalent; oLevel 1 training competences in Paediatrics. oCT1, CT2 & CT3 Acute Common Care Stem (ACCS) Emergency Medicine (EM) competences at Core Trainee level oEvidence of 36 months training at CT1, CT2 and CT3 level in the specialties that make up the ACCS and CT3 EM programme, but must include a minimum of 6 months in EM and a minimum of 3 months in specialties other than EM. If musculoskeletal has not been completed then a minimum of 9 months EM is required.

Experience

Essential

At least 24 months experience in Paediatrics, At least 36 months experience in ACCS and CT3 specialties Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances

Desirable

At least 3 months experience in Paediatrics for EM/ACCS-trained applicants At least 3 month's experience in EM for paediatric-trained applicants

Up-to-date APLS/EPALS Out of hours experience relevant to the job Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
