Research Nurse
This is an exciting opportunity to join a research team aiming to achieve earlier diagnosis of oesophageal cancer. The BEST4 platform trial is a National project funded by Cancer Research UK and National Institute for Health Research. It is an extension of our previous work using the Capsule sponge test as a pioneering new approach that provides a simple office-based test instead of endoscopy. The overall aim of this trial is to determine whether the Capsule sponge test can be used to diagnose cancer of the oesophagus at an earlier stage and reduce the number of deaths from this condition. The Research Nurse will work as part of a team offering training for clinical activities and providing nursing support for the BEST4 study in collaboration with the Cancer Prevention Trials Unit (CPTU) at Queen Mary University London. They will be responsible for training of nurses in mobile units and secondary care sites in the administration of the Capsule sponge device. They will work alongside the Principal Research Nurse (BEST 4 Clinical Coordinator), the Deputy Senior Research Nurse and established clinical teams, researchers, research nurses and administrators on SOPs and related documents, recruitment, sample collection, data entry and providing clinical support to ensure swift and high quality follow-up for positive test results as required.
Applicants must have a professional nursing qualification and post-registration research experience in performing clinical studies. The post holder should demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to help meet the objectives of the Project with a willingness to travel to sites. Knowledge of research methodology, ethics and research governance of clinical studies is also essential. Experience in clinical research studies and/ gastroenterology would be an advantage.
This post is available immediately.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with adults' barred list). This appointment also requires NMC Registration and a Research Passport application.
This is an integrated appointment between the University and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust ("NHS Trust"). You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Research Contract by the NHS Trust. You should be aware that if your contract with the NHS Trust is terminated your employment with the University will be terminated, and vice versa.
Closing date: 6th September 2024
Date of interview: W/C 23rd or 30th September 2024
