Job summary

The post holder will manage a team of staff, the day to day working of Catering, Cleaning, Portering and Laundry services within Crewkerne and Chard Community Hospitals. Crewkerne has a 16 bedded inpatient ward, Outpatient, Physio and Administration areas. Chard hospital has several outpatient areas covering different clinics, physio department and administration areas.

This is in conjunction with Matron and the Trust Facilities and Deputy Facilities Managers to ensure a safe and hygienic environment to support patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage the day to day working of Catering, Cleaning, Portering (where applicable) and laundry services within the hospital wards and departments (where applicable); this in conjunction with Matron, Facilities Manager and Deputy Facilities Manager to ensure a safe and hygienic environment to support patient care. This is maintained by ensuring a range of cleaning, housekeeping and catering duties are carried out.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the Facilities Team maintains the standards set out by the Trust / Department and Government Guidance.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the effective provision of a comprehensive, professional and high-quality facilities to support the running of the departments within the Community Hospital & Mental Health setting.

The post holder will have the ability to prioritise and manage a challenging workload without supervision on a daily basis and cope with interruptions from staff, telephone calls, emails and contractors, many of which require immediate attention.

The post holder must ensure compliance with the NHS National Cleaning Standards, Trust Operational Cleaning Manual and the National Better Hospital Food programme.

The post holder will manage the production of safe catering for patients, staff and visitors.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will manage the day to day working of Catering, Cleaning, Portering (where applicable) and laundry services within the hospital wards and departments (where applicable); this in conjunction with Matron, Facilities Manager and Deputy Facilities Manager to ensure a safe and hygienic environment to support patient care. This is maintained by ensuring a range of cleaning, housekeeping and catering duties are carried out. (See attached full job description).

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the Facilities Team maintains the standards set out by the Trust / Department and Government Guidance.

The overall responsibility of the Facilities Team lies with the Matron / Ward Managers as the budget holder.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the effective provision of a comprehensive, professional and high-quality facilities to support the running of the departments within the Community Hospital & Mental Health setting.

The post holder will establish effective working links with all hospital staff, patients and external agencies ( Contractors, Environmental Health Officers)

The post holder is responsible for E-roster within facilities, and will input all staff hours, ensuring they are within the agreed budget limits. The post holder will be the first line approval for authorisation and then inform the Matrons for final approval.

The post holder will allocate staff on a daily basis and amend staffing to cover sickness and annual leave.

The post holder is expected to use their own initiative, make decisions and deal with departmental, patient and contractor queries.

The post holder will oversee any facilities contractors when onsite to ensure deliveries/collections/work is adhered too and if any fall below the contract requirements take appropriate action to ensure the issues are resolved.

The post holder will report any estate requests, monitor outcomes and completion of jobs

and refer any non-completion of work to Matrons, Ward Managers, senior Estates Officer and the Facilities Management Team

The post holder will ensure the security of the Facilities department. In times of absence the

Facilities Team Leader they will delegate this responsibility to others.
