Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to for an Advanced Neonatal Clinical Practitioner (ACP Neonatal) on the Neonatal Surgical Unit at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the NSU MDT, Jessop Neonatologists and ANNP teams.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and inspiring individual who holds Neonatal QIS and has significant neonatal surgical care experience to undertake training via the Advanced Clinical Practice apprenticeship programme at the University of Sheffield commencing in September 2024. You will be training and working as part of the surgical and neonatal medical teams, ensuring the provision of high-quality care to neonatal surgical babies and their families.

The training programme encompasses the four pillars of advanced practice; clinical practice, leadership, education and research to expand your professional and personal boundaries, develop expert clinical autonomous practice and complex decision making skills.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be able to demonstrate the core advanced practice capabilities and neonatal clinical competencies relevant to the speciality. ACPs working within neonatal surgery and medicine will learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become clinical leaders of neonatal practice and to play a pioneering role in multidisciplinary teams. As an ACP, you'll be a dynamic practitioner making advanced decisions about practice, leadership and management.

Main duties of the job

The apprentice advanced clinical practitioner role is a 3 year training programme during which time the post holder will be based within their chosen speciality at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust. They will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary where they will work within a defined scope of practice and to agreed clinical standards relevant to the speciality.

The apprenticeship programme encompasses work-based and academic learning, contributing towards gaining a master's degree in advanced clinical practice at the University of Sheffield. The post holder will complete the RCPCH portfolio of competency and evidence based practice, consolidating their knowledge within the chosen specialist area.

A learning agreement will be developed collaboratively between the divisional clinical team and the academic tutor which will outline the academic milestones which will need to be achieved during the programme. Experience and skills will be underpinned by the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership, education and research. The post holder will act as a role model, developing their knowledge and skills to deliver an advanced level of practice the speciality whilst delivering evidence-based high-quality care for neonatal surgical babies and their families.

Job responsibilities

You will have a good (2:2 or above) bachelors degree in a related health discipline, for example nursing, physiotherapy, paramedic science, pharmacy A minimum of a grade C in GCSE English Language and Maths or equivalent Be a qualified UK registered healthcare professional, working in the pathway specific area for a minimum of two years Hold a current relevant employment contract in the pathway specific setting for the duration of the programme for a minimum of 30 hours per week Be able to provide evidence of support from a manager and a lead consultant

The programme will develop the advanced competency based skills using the RCPCH and the RCN standards for advanced level practice. You will have an identified ANP and consultant mentor to support and guide you through the programme as well as working within an experienced nursing and medical team. Quarterly tripartite discussions will ensure that the relevant support is identified and delivered via the student/clinical supervisor/tutor relationship.

A learning agreement for the duration of the programme will be developed collaboratively with your line manager and academic tutor which outlines the education milestones which you will be required to achieve.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered with the relevant healthcare professional body Degree level registration qualification or equivalent post-registration award Evidence of continuous professional development at post graduate level or equivalent Commitment to complete an MSC in Advanced Clinical Practice which includes independent non-medical prescribing Neonatal intensive care of the newborn qualification

Desirable
