Job summary

Exciting opportunities are available for experienced, caring, and highly motivated Therapeutic Radiographers to work as Band 7 Team Leaders in Radiotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. We are looking for a practitioners with an excellent technical background, an awareness of advanced imaging techniques, and the ability to manage a complex treatment unit. The ideal candidates will enjoy working as part of a team, whilst providing strong leadership, and will have proven exemplary communication and patient care skills. In addition, these roles require someone with the confidence to lead the delivery of advanced radiotherapy techniques such as SABR, IMRT, VMAT and breath-hold (VIBH & ABC) as well as experience of IGRT using both EPI and CBCT in a quality driven environment.

In addition to 7 Elekta linear accelerators, the dept has an Elekta MR linear accelerator, Cyberknife unit and Gulmay superficial unit.

Main duties of the job

When they are working as a Senior I clinical practitioner they will be responsible for the radiotherapy processes at and the operational management of a specialist highly complex radiotherapy work base, which may be a treatment unit, a CT scanner, or a treatment preparation area. They will supervise the immediate radiographic team including students, aides and visitors on a rotational basis, ensuring that the practise of all results in the radiotherapy processes at their work base being performed accurately as prescribed. The post-holder will liaise with medical, physics, nursing, clerical and support staff within the department and throughout the institution. The key working relationships will be with superintendent radiographers.

As clinical lead at the work base to be responsible for evidence based decision making within prescribed limits. Be competent to analyse and approve images following designated training and adhering to protocols. Responsible for the accurate preparation, planning and delivery of treatment by self and by all members of the immediate team. Set high standards of technical expertise, acting as role model to junior staff members. To be responsible for maintaining professional standards of self and other team members. Responsible for the training of team members in the operation of all equipment safely and efficiently as per manufacturers instructions, including local guidelines, under the guidance of superintendent radiographers. Attainments

Essential

HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer (requires BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent accredited programme) Significant experience as a Senior II in a complex department, competent in IGRV , IMRT technologies Post graduate qualification/training in assessing/supervising/teaching (may be completed after appointment) Demonstrate understanding of the advanced principles for sophisticated radiotherapy treatment planning and delivery. Participated in a quality management programme Previous experience of participating in clinical education of preregistration students
