The Radiotherapy department have been a trailblazer for supporting apprentice roles at RMH and have supported a number at the Sutton site, several of whom are still in training.

However, the team of radiotherapy aides need some permanent staff who will stay in the role and be able to train and support new apprentice roles moving forward and support the clinical service. We also need to look at succession planning due to several of the key radiotherapy aides who train the apprentices are nearing retirement.

We will encourage any new employees to undertake apprenticeship programmes once in post - as we did Tom in fact.
- Provide friendly and professional reception of patients and their escorts.
- Record the attendance of patients in the appointment system.
- Make bookings for radiotherapy treatments in collaboration with the radiographic staff.
- Arrange patients’ appointments and provide summary and arrange hospital transport and outpatient clinic appointments as required.
- Contact clinical specialists and doctors as directed by radiographers and nursing staff.
- Greet visitors to department and make contact as appropriate.

- May be required to assist in the manual handling of patients in radiotherapy rooms following manual handling training guidelines.
- Maintain supplies of consumables for the patient information racks and drinking fountains.
- Ensure that the radiotherapy department is neat and tidy, and a welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
- Ensure that security in the work environment is maintained by locking doors, challenging unknown persons who enter the working area and by wearing the Trust identity badge at all times whilst at work.
