Akey component in enabling and embedding change across an Integrated Care System(ICS) is the Data Science discipline. The team work closely with a variety of clinicaland operational teams, data science and engineering counterparts across the ICSand use their domain knowledge to develop solutions that create impact for thepopulation.

Thetechnologies used by the team are diverse, and the post holder should beprepared to use the right tool for the job. The type of skills relevant to therole are (but not limited to) Python, SQL, Azure, DevOps, GitHub.

Thework of the team is varied, and in an ever-changing landscape a pragmaticattitude is essential. The post holderwill be required to learn new skills, innovate, get involved in projectslarge and small, and contribute to the future direction of the data science teamand how it operates.

Youwill be instrumental in the design and delivery of Dorset's approach topopulation analytics and the effective utilisation of data science, modellingand analytics that supports it. You will be working collaboratively with systemstakeholders ensuring that data science plans are developed, maintained, anddelivered.

Main duties of the job

You will be working in a fast-pacedenvironment with competing priorities and deadlines, taking the lead forprojects and programmes. You will be able to demonstrate experience ofsupporting significant change projects in health care. You will have an excellentunderstanding of the delivery of data science and the associated research andanalysis to develop output and models that support decision making.

Weare looking for someone with relevant or transferable experience and skills andexcellent communication skills. You will be someone who enjoys making adifference and can use data, reports and feedback to support the delivery ofhealth and social care to improve wellbeing for people in Dorset.

An innovative and intrepidapproach to the use of established and emerging technology is required to supportthe needs of stakeholders.

Responsible for the delivery of data science and enhanced analytics,ensuring its embedded in the governance and leadership of the ICS. Manage the operationaldelivery of the data science team and wider ICS resources. Champion data science approacheswith our partners and instrumental in the development of data science amongstthe analytical community. Ensure DiiS are at the leading-edge of data science and evaluate newopportunities for the ICS and lead on developing capability to take advantageof these. A key pillar ofdelivering digital change within the NHS is the data science discipline. The DorsetIntegrated Care Board (ICB) is looking for a Lead Data Scientist to develop itstechnical capabilities in solving complex problems using data science and machinelearning models.

This role willbe working in the Dorset Intelligence and Insight Service (DiiS) with the datascience function. As a Lead Data Scientist, you will leadmodelling and analytical projects, assisting data scientists and data engineerson modelling methodologies and coding practices, you will have experience ofsuccessfully deploying projects using cloud infrastructure and data pipelines.

As a technical leader, you will be instrumental in developing toolsand methodologies to solve problems using data science and AI models. You will assistthe head of data science in leading the data science team and reviewing code,and implementing tools and approaches that will contribute to Dorsetstransition to cutting-edge data science, automation & AI.

The Lead DataScientist will be able to apply knowledge of a variety of data scienceapproaches and methodologies such as machine learning, statistics, forecasting,classification, simulation modelling, operational research, and NLP asappropriate.

This role provides the opportunity to be part of a change to the waywe deliver health and care services in Dorset ICS; we need a greater focus onprevention, reducing health inequalities by providing equitable access, outcomes,and experience, joining up pathways for the benefit of the users and ensuringcare is delivered by the right person, in the right place at the right time.Population Health Management is key to this approach; we need to ensure we havethe correct data sets; use all the data we have available well and adopt a datadriven approach to planning and delivery of health and care.

The Lead Data Scientist also will work closely with a variety of clinicians and operational teams and use theirdetailed domain knowledge to develop solutions that create positive impact inthe system and for the population.
