Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a dysphagia trained Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our acute team based at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. Those looking for a developmental position as a stepping stone between Band 5 and Band 6 are welcome to apply as training and support can be given to develop leadership and clinical skills. Post graduate dysphagia training is essential due to the main caseload being patients with dysphagia, however there are also opportunities to work with patients with communication difficulties as the caseload requires.
Our team has access to videofluoroscopy and we are in the process of setting up a Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) service. You will have access to Band 7 and Band 8a clinical Speech and Language Therapists to help develop your clinical skills as well as being supported by a Band 7 Team Manager.
We have regular access to CPD both within our acute team and our wider SLT team which includes SLTs working in head and neck cancer, community hospitals, outpatients, voice, domiciliary and our local spinal injury centre. There will be opportunities to gain skills in organising and creating training, developing supervision skills, and opportunities to gain experience with instrumental swallowing assessment. Some cross site working with our sister hospital (Royal Shrewsbury Hospital) may be required and provides an opportunity to learn from our wider acute inpatient team."
Main duties of the job
To assess, diagnose/ interpret and manage a shared specialist caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner.
The job will include working in a wide variety of areas - general medical, elderly care, respiratory, cardiac, renal, surgical, gastro, critical care and also will allow opportunities to work alongside other specialist clinical teams such as end of life care, dementia, dental hygienist, social work.
About us
Join us at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, where our passion for excellence drives everything we do.
We're on a mission to provide high quality, safe care to our patients, in an environment our incredible staff are proud to work in.
Our vision, 'To provide excellent care for the communities we serve,' is not just a statement; it's a promise we live by every day. Guided by our core Values - Partnering, Ambitious, Caring, and Trusted - we're determined to make a real difference in the lives of those who matter most: our patients and their families.
If you're ready to be part of a team that's dedicated to continuous improvement, come join us and let's make a difference together
We are a really friendly and supportive team and have excellent multidisciplinary links across the hospital and the community. We share offices with our excellent dietetic colleagues who we enjoy working closely with.
