As Power System Engineer, you’ll lead the design of the electricity transmission system, ensuring optimum system design issues on NGET’s transmission network. Working closely with customers, supporting compliance assessments to ensure that they can connect to the transmission network.


You’ll be involved in new technologies (i.e. HVDC and FACTS) discussions and specifications including innovation projects related to renewables and new technologies.


To do this, you’ll be involved in a range of power system modelling and system studies such as load flow, fault level, harmonic analysis, EMT analysis and/or control interaction studies to ensure compliance with relevant standards. You’ll maintain the integrity and safety of the network for all infrastructure and connection developments in the fields of power system design. 

Across both teams, you’ll demonstrate solid understanding of power system fundamentals, power system dynamics, power system modelling and studies. You will have a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in power system engineering or a related field.

These roles are based out of our offices in Warwick and can be combined with hybrid working from home.

What you'll need

In Data and Modelling Team:

Experience of developing and maintaining current and future network models for short-term and long-term planning purposes, ensuring data accuracy and ownership.  Good knowledge in programming skills such as Python and DIgSILENT Programming Language (DPL). Experience of Customer engagement / Power Industry / Consultancy would be advantageous. Expertise in power system engineering, analysis, scripting, and automation for complex problem solving, optimisation, data processing etc. Experience of providing business expertise for model technical support and the algorithms, scheme modelling, data assurance and measurement of model quality, script management and information flows.

In Power Quality and Dynamic Performance Team:

Knowledge of power system studies in RMS and/or EMT. Proficiency in utilizing simulation tools DIgSILENT PowerFactory or PSCAD for power system studies. Familiarity with dynamic performance studies for HVDC/ FACTS and/or Windfarms Understanding of the application of power electronics-based devices in power systems (i.e. HVDC, FACTS, wind farm) Basic comprehension of AC/DC network design Can present technical information to a range of stakeholders through written reports and presentations. Customer interfacing skills
