Key Responsibilities & TasksMain Responsibilities:- Provide effective support in taught sessions to students with SEND to create equality of opportunity within the classroom.- Motivate and enthuse SEND students to fully participate within the curriculum.- Gain a clear understanding of students' SEND requirements and implement the support outlined within their support plan and/or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).- Support students in a way that promotes independence as much as possible. Main Tasks:- Supporting and encouraging students in their college work.- Maintaining daily logs of support using the College's information system, ProMonitor.- Providing small group and 1:1 support in lessons to learners with SEND.- Supporting students to understand and interpret instructions.- Accessing schemes of work, lesson plans, and liaising with the class lecturer to ensure effective support.- Note taking when necessary.- Offering practical assistance in the classroom/workshop as necessary.
Requirements
  • A level 2 qualification in Maths and English
  • A minimum of a level 3 qualification
  • Experience in supporting students in a classroom environment with SEND
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges and demands of working with people with SEND
  • Excellent oral communication and inter-personal skills in order to work effectively with students and mainstream staff.
  • Empathy, sensitivity and ability to develop and sustain a rapport with both staff and students
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and assist students in record keeping/portfolios assembly (where appropriate).
  • Basic competency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, or equivalent packages.
