Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, efficient, and motivated individual to support in building an Employee Relations team within the new NHS England.
Vital to the HR& OD team, the role will be responsible for leading a team of Employee Relations specialists who will support each Directorate / Region in ensuring that there is prompt responsive and case management support for the early resolution of workplace issues.
The successful individual with have a wealth of experience within
Supporting the management of the provision of an efficient, effective, high-quality professional, strategic and well-co-ordinated ER service. Complex casework, employment tribunals and working with Trade Union partners addressing complex queries related to sickness absence, disciplinary issues, grievances, bullying, harassment, and capability. Effective case planning, taking ownership of multiple and varied employee relation cases timely and efficiently. Advising and coaching managers / leaders clearly and effectively on employee relations processes, considering the legal, financial and reputational risks. Managing a similar function/programme, building a collaborative working environment and an innovative culture. Having difficult and sensitive conversations with colleagues of all levels and being able to question, challenge and influence.

Role model a collaborative and influential approach, negotiating with others to achieve the best outcomes. Work with managers and staff to resolve conflict at the lowest level of formality possible, ensuring compliance with employment law, policy and processes. Drive reform and support organisational change and uptake of initiatives that support excellence. Support with the development and implementation of a range of alternative dispute resolution approaches including the use of facilitated conversations and a mediation service with a view to preventing disputes from further escalation. Draw qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources and present in a clear concise manner.The successful candidate will work in partnership with HR Business Partner colleagues and wider HR/OD colleagues to provide a strong foundation for employee relations which have a direct impact on and deliver cultural change.
In addition, the successful individual will have the opportunity to support with transformation of managing conflicts and concerns in the workplace.

Substantial senior level experience in HR & OD roles, working in a Workforce / HR role with a strong emphasis on Employee Relations in a comparably complex organisation. Demonstrated Employee Relations expertise, ideally with experience of leading ER / HR & OD professionals. Resilient,tenaciousandtheabilitytoachieveprogressindelivering outcomesand improvements under pressure, managing multiple dependencies and risks across complex situations putting investment and resources to best use to minimise costs. Complex Case Management experience: Handling a diverse employee relations case load, addressing complex queries related to sickness absence, disciplinary issues, grievances, bullying, harassment, capability and employment tribunals. SecondmentsApplicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only, agreement should be obtained from their employer prior to submitting the application.
Salary Progression Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8c with a full-time starting salary of £70,417, with a pay step increase after 5 years service. For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £5,132 per annum and a maximum payment of £7,746 per annum. This is offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and is based on office location. Person Specification
