Basingstoke, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and suitably qualified CBT Therapist or Clinical Psychologist to work within the At Risk Mental State (ARMS) Service. An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop a new service for people at high risk of developing psychosis. The posts are embedded within an existing Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Team and will join a Clinical Associate Psychologist, Service Manager and a Principal Clinical Psychologist ARMS Lead.

The At Risk Mental State Service is a new and exciting service that will work with individuals from the age of 14- 35 who may be at risk of developing psychosis. The purpose will be to offer brief holistic psychological and psychosocial interventions to prevent further development of psychotic symptoms. This will include working with families.

Alongside direct clinical interventions with ARMS clients, work in the ARMS service includes the early detection of psychosis. This role includes community engagement with local organisations including voluntary care sector organisations and other NHS services to identify people who may be at risk of developing psychosis. The post-holder will be expected to promote destigmatising information about psychosis and to increase the accessibility of mental health services.

This would particularly suit Clinical Psychologist or CBT therapist who has special interests related to psychosis, early intervention and young people.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist psychological assessment, CAARMS assessments (assessment of At Risk Mental State), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Family Interventions to individuals with an "At Risk Mental State" (ARMS). This post will be working in the ARMS pathway within the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service and liaising closely with EIP colleagues if patients are suspected of experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

The successful applicant will provide psychological assessments, formulation, and consultation with patients and their families as well as delivery of CBT and Family Interventions. They will be responsible for supervising a Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) to provide psychosocial interventions. The applicant will be willing to undertake CAARMS supervisor training and training in Family Interventions.

Working as an autonomous practitioner working within professional guidelines and the organisational structure of the service's policies and procedures. The post holder will place an emphasis on co-production and demonstrate an attitude which respects and values patients and their carers and the core values of the trust: patients and people first; partnership; and respect.

Clinical advice, supervision, teaching, support and communication are integral to the role.

Participation in research, evaluation and audit is expected.

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.
