DBT Therapist

Basingstoke, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

This post might particularly appeal to an individual with a core profession in nursing, OT or social work who wants a change of career to become a psychological therapist. This post can be offered as a preceptorship opportunity to the right applicant wishing to develop from a Band 6 into a Band 7 role, and following accreditation with a relevant professional body. We are able to put a development plan in place to support applicants to meet full specification. We are particularly interested in applicants with training and experience in providing DBT but requiring further support to meet the criteria for accreditation by the Society for DBT (SfDBT). However training in DBT is not essential as training can be provided. Experience of working with complex mental health is essential. This is a role, created in our efforts to increase access to psychological therapies for those individuals who struggle with complex trauma and / or personality disorder.

There will be opportunities within post to develop and broaden your therapeutic skills as we work to develop our therapy offer to include CAT and MBT within our service. The Mid and North Hampshire Psychological Therapies Team is a thriving active team of psychologists and psychological therapists. We are dedicated to delivering superb quality, evidence-based interventions. We pride ourselves on contributing to the development and implementation of innovative interventions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the DBT team for the area, and provide DBT individually and through group programmes as well as offering advice, consultation, reflective practice, clinical formulation and training to staff within the multidisciplinary teams. Evaluation of interventions and the impact of the service in terms of benefit to clients is an important component of what we strive to do. You will be an integral member of the Mid & North Hampshire Division's psychological therapies team. The applicant should have a desire to embrace MDT working, training and team development.

About us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
