About the role:

This role is suited to an individual with at least 5 year’s experience of working with customers to solve engineering challenges in an industrial environment. The Senior Systems Engineer will be focussed on working with customers to identify, capture and refine requirements, convert this into a simulation architecture and lead the development of novel simulations to solve engineering challenges across a range of domains. They will be expected to take ownership of projects and plan and deliver them in coordination with the team’s project manager. The Senior Systems Engineer will be expected to identify areas for improvement and take ownership of developing tools to be applied across a range of projects, identifying other areas where they can be applied. They will be expected to use their own initiative, judgement and critical thinking to evaluate candidate approaches and tools to achieve project goals. The role will require management of junior colleagues to deliver projects and mentor their development.

Key Responsibilities:

● Deliver commercial and research projects on time to a high quality within budget.

● Undertake technical research and development of simulation techniques and methodologies.

● Work with existing and potential customers to distil problems into deliverable projects.

● Undertake requirements capture workshops, developing the problem statements into quantified requirements specifications.

● Work with the Head of Engineering and other colleagues to develop novel solutions to customers problems.

● Contribute to and deliver project reports and presentations.

● Provide technical input into project bids.

● Manage junior members of staff to deliver projects.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

● A strong technical background in Maths, Physics, Engineering or Applied Computing domains.

● 5+ years’ experience in relevant role of solving engineering challenges in an industrial environment.

● Experience of planning, managing and delivering projects.

● Experience of customer facing activities including leading technical meetings and requirements gathering.

● Experience of requirements capture and definition.

● Experience of presenting and writing reports on technical subjects for a range of audiences.

● Experience of creating mathematical models and their computational implementations.

● Experience of programming in Python and/or C++ and working in Linux environments.

● Experience of using software development practices such as version control, unit testing and CI/CD.

● Knowledge of model optimisation techniques, sensitivity analysis and design of experiments are desirable.

● Experience of working with High Performance Compute (HPC) systems is desirable.

● Excellent written and verbal communication and organisational skills.
