Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, patient-focused and conscientious nurse to join the Surgical Admissions and Procedure Unit team; we are looking for an Admission nurse who has excellent care values, deliver high quality patient centred care and provides gold standard documentation. We ae currently open Monday to Friday 6am until 7pm. Not only do we admit all the patients who are admitted to the RNOH we also have a procedure room, where the Chronic Pain Consultants carry out their procedures.

Candidate must be NMC registered .

Main duties of the job

Previous orthopaedic experience would be advantageous however newly qualified nurses will be fully supported throughout our excellent induction and preceptorship programme. As an individual you must be flexible, have excellent communication skills and capable of working well with members of the multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate must be motivated to develop to their full potential. As an individual and as part of a team you will have the opportunity to contribute to new developments within the service, therefore the ability to implement and adapt to change is essential.

Job responsibilities

The Admissions nurse will be responsible for assessing the care needs of individual Patients and completing the necessary admissions documentation. The Admissions Nurse will carry out all relevant assessments utilizing the appropriate risk assessment tools, without direct supervision. The Admissions Nurse will liaise with Admitting Wards and the Admissions and Discharge team in relation to Patients transfers to the Ward, in order to ensure a smooth organized transition. The Admissions Nurse will also be involved the Post-operative care of patients who have their procedures carried out in the Procedure room within the unit. The role will include some elements of teaching and supervision for qualified and unqualified staff as well as patients and their families or carers. The Nurse will strive to maintain high standards within the department and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

RN1, RN2, RN8, RN12, RN15 registered on the NMC register

Desirable

Teaching and assessing qualification Nursing Diploma Nursing Degree Dependent upon experience: Relevant post registration course Management qualification ALS.

Experience

Essential

Working within multi-disciplinary teams. Current evidence based practice Sound knowledge of the particular patient group Relevant experience in this or an associated speciality. Experience in the Admissions Process.

Desirable

6 months to 1 year general nursing experience Experience as a student nurse within orthopaedic setting Dependent upon experience: Supervision of junior staff and students Working with PAS Managing change.
