Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at TheTutbury Practice. The role is for an experienced HCA who will be working underthe direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and GP Partners.

The position is for 20 hours across 4 days per week.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the HCA will be supporting the nursingteam in delivering a high level of patient care. The role will include patientcare wound care, vaccines, ECG's and some phlebotomy .

About us

The Tutbury Practice is a rural based practice with a populationof around 8400 patients. Our team consists of 2 GP partners, 3 salaried GPS, 1registrar, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 1Clinical Pharmacist, and 1 Nurse Manager with a well-established nursing team complementedby a friendly and established admin and reception team. The CQC rating isgood.

Job responsibilities

The HCA is responsible for:

Performing tasks prescribed and delegated by the clinicalteam, working to agreed protocols with appropriate training and within definedcompetencies.

Supporting the other members of the clinicalteam

Immunisations under a PSD

Urinalysis

Blood pressure measurement/monitoring includingambulatory BP monitoring

ECG

Patient observations height and weightmeasurements

Supporting patients with lifestyleadvice/healthcare promotion

Chaperoning

Diabetic checks

Simple wound care

INR monitoring

Suture and clip removal

Wound dressings/swabs/care

Phlebotomy

Emergency Trolleys

O2 / AEDs

Screening for Atrial Fibrillation

Supporting long-term condition monitoring

Assisting the Practice Nurses and GPS with minorsurgery procedures including but not extensive to IUD insertion and removal

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the HCA will beresponsible for administration tasks including:

Handling specimens and clinical waste/sharps inaccordance with practice policy

Record fridge temperatures, clean fridges, promptlyreport temperature variations from standard

Adhering to all relevant policies includinginfection control and managing the cold chain

Check stock in all clinical rooms, order stockand restock as necessary

Contributing to keeping the working area andpatient areas tidy and free from hazards

Maintaining a safe clinical environment

Minimising risk to self and others in theworkplace

Identifying and reporting hazards/risks andcontributing to control measures

Using protective equipment and clothing providedand in accordance with the practices policy

Applying correctly spill control anddecontamination policies

Ensuring sufficient supplies of all cleansingand infection control materials

Attending regular mandatory and update training

Prepare clinical areas between patients inaccordance with infection control procedures including cleaning surfaces andequipment

Dispose of all clinical waste/sharps inaccordance with practices infection control protocol

Clean/maintain all equipment in accordance withinfection control and equipment maintenance policies

Take action to manage spills or decontaminateaffected areas

Organise repair and regular maintenance andcalibration of equipment, including equipment maintenance/checking/calibrationlog

Communication:

Advise patients of the HCA role, its extent andlimits

Advise patients appropriately and refer on ifthey require the services of a nurse, GP or other clinical team member

The HCA will:

Undertake training needed to ensure competencies fordelivering all responsibilities.

Take responsibility for own development including staffappraisals, giving and receiving feedback, performance management with thesupport and supervision of qualified staff.
