London, United Kingdom Amazon Data Services UK Limited Full time
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world leader in providing a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud powering hundreds of thousands of businesses in hundreds of countries around the world. As part of the AWS Infrastructure organization, Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) prepares for, plans, and builds the data centers that comprise the AWS cloud.

We’re seeking an experienced Technical Infrastructure Program Manager in London, UK to oversee data center infrastructure expansion projects. The Technical Infrastructure Program Manager will lead cross-functional and technical teams from conceptual design feasibility through requirements, budget, completed design, implementation, testing, and deployment. Along the way, they will use judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence without authority, analytical talent, technical aptitude, and leadership to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple time zones, manage capital budgets, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to accelerate project delivery.

At Amazon, along with technical strength, we expect our leaders to interact with internal and external customers, partners and suppliers to understand our joint business goals and priorities, and to execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality.

The ideal candidate will be an exceptionally strong communicator, both written and verbally, and possess 3-5+ years of experience in tactical project management of highly technical initiatives. Calibrated judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence without authority, analytical talent and leadership is a must, along with the capacity to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment. Experience in managing data center infrastructure deployments is a plus. Candidates possessing a Bachelor's degree in architecture/design, mechanical/electrical engineering, software/network engineering, data center infrastructure/operations, and/or construction management, who have transitioned to a program management discipline will have a distinct advantage.

The Technical Infrastructure Program Manager will be fully competent in a variety of project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of the project lifecycle and exhibit demonstrated experience in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking. Other requirements include experience with MS Office, MS Project and MS SharePoint. Experience with Tableau, KanBan, Playbook, SQL and systems integration a plus.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a UK Citizen and obtain and maintain an active security clearance.

Key job responsibilities
Technical Infrastructure Program Managers lead a matrixed team through influence in the execution of data center capacity projects. They are mindful of cost, schedule, and quality during all aspects of their builds. They look around corners to identify risks early and are quick to take action. They effectively balance ownership and holding partner teams to high standards of responsibility. They stand ready to leverage their technical and project-focused backgrounds to deep dive issues and develop mitigations to minimize impact. They strive to ensure data center capacity is delivered ahead of customer demand.

A day in the life
There is no typical day in the life of a Technical Infrastructure Program Manager. On one day, they may review demand forecasts for their assigned region to ensure that future builds are triggered on time. They may ensure that design reviews are effectively conducted. They may deep dive a material delivery issue that threatens their project schedule or resolve a technical challenge uncovered through execution. They work both in corporate offices and on the job site depending on the state of their projects.

About the team
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
